It's that time of year again, when we take to the polls and vote in our representatives for the coming term.

The midterms are usually a quiet affair, but after the fiasco that was the confirming of Justice Kavanaugh, maybe it's time to re-access how we chose the candidates that receive our precious vote.

The days of old when candidates were polite and civil has turned into a circus of lies and accusations. People are disillusioned with both of the establishment parties, seeing neither integrity nor morality therein.

Some will still “tow the line” and vote down the party line, while others will shrug their shoulders and declare “doesn't matter, they're all the same” and not even bother to use their right as an American citizen to vote.

That is not the way to achieve changes in our system.

We need to take a closer look at the candidates themselves, not just the party. Determine who is most aligned with your own personal views.

For me, it's a very simple process, because I know what matters most to me.

  • Respect for our country, its symbols, and our men in uniform.
  • Respect for our Constitution and the men the who wrote it.
  • Respect for our national borders and sensible immigration policies.
  • Respect for people who work hard to contribute to our society, regardless of their race, creed, or color.
  • Respect for the rule of law and an orderly airing of grievances.

These are the issues that matter to me.

What matters to you?
