Over the past 30 days, I’ve traveled to Austin, our great State Capitol, four times.
My last trip was to attend the public hearing on HB6, a bill focused on election integrity. I arrived on the capitol steps by 6:30 a.m. on April 1 with a dozen or so fellow patriots to eventually testify in favor of the bill at 4:00 a.m. on April 2. Talk about a marathon!
Participating in the process of getting a bill out of committee was a unique learning experience for me. Watching tactics used by various lawmakers and witnesses to sway for or against the bill further added clarity to my understanding of what our state and country are going through and what we are up against.
Supporters of the bill talked in terms of election integrity, while those opposed talked in terms of voter suppression, the lack of voter fraud, major corporations opposing the bill, and racism.
As the hearing continued into the wee hours of the night, the representatives opposing the bill became less credible in my opinion. To counter the representatives who say that there just isn’t enough voter fraud to warrant changes to the Texas election code, there were citizen testimonies from Harris, Dallas, and the border counties who made it abundantly clear there is very significant voter fraud in Texas.
The testimonies I witnessed also expose the lie that election integrity is founded in racism. The most powerful testimonies came from our many black and brown American brothers and sisters, who took time out of their busy lives to boldly share their insights and experiences.
For representatives touting how major corporations are opposing the bill, at least one witness stepped up and countered the narrative by pointing out that corporations doing business in Texas have no right to be influencing legislation in ways that are against the will of Texas citizens. Bravo for her!
I wish I had shared the message that corporations are owned by stockholders. Many stockholders are not United States citizens and in fact, may be from foreign countries or representatives of foreign countries who do not share our values or have America’s best interests at heart. I’ll be better prepared the next time!
Some representatives expressed concern that if the bill becomes law, it will suppress the vote. Well, there is a straightforward response to that: HB6 will suppress illegal votes and ensure that all legal votes are no longer suppressed. Texas will no longer stand for these shenanigans to corrupt our voting process!
I urge everyone to join and become a part of the Convention of States self-governing movement to ensure Texas and America remain a great state and nation for all of us and all our our future generations.
