In 2017 Texas passed an Article V application, unfortunately, there was an eight year 'sunset clause'. Without any further legislation, Texas would simply slip away into the abyss, and Article V would die. A travesty to be certain. Thank God there are Texas patriots willing to step up to the plate and not allow that to happen!
On March 10, Senator Bettencourt brought SJR52 to Committee! Committee Chair, Senator Hughes, asked Senator Bettencourt, in Senator Birdwell's absence, to present SJR52. This is not the be all end all in the fight for Texas Article V Convention of States application. This joint resolution calls for an additional eight year extension to the sunset clause, extending it to 2033.

Fast forward to 1:44:00 to see our very own Mark Meckler, Frank Fuss, James Stewart, Sean Nelson, Mike Deffendall take a seat at the table and express their desires for the passage of the SJR52 extension. Many expressed the desire for a complete removal of the sunset clause, but will definitely welcome an additional eight years to ensure the removal ultimately happens.
In the video you will watch John van Compernolle testify as well. The special part of his testimony is not what he says about SJR52. It comes after that, once he has been dismissed from the table. Chairman Hughes mentions something to John about his beard. Why is that special? Because John exemplifies the importance of networking. You see, Senator Hughes and John are both from Mineola, TX and John works diligently to ensure that his state representatives and senators know who he is. That relationship matters.
Ultimately after a short debate, SJR52 passed by a vote of 19 to 12. This is a victory for the Texas Convention of States team. Well done by all and the efforts of so many. We will not lose sight of the final goal: 1) to remove the sunset clause in its entirety and 2) bring the nation together for a national Convention of States to bring Washington to its knees and relinquish the stronghold it has on Americans.
