Our grassroots mission at Convention of States is to educate citizens on Article V and foster support to have South Dakota join the movement.
To promote our cause to bring power back to the States, we will have a booth at FreedomFest on July, 21-24 in Rapid City, S.D. Our dedicated COS volunteers will be exhibitors. Mark Meckler, COS Founder, will present as well.
Below is an excerpt from one of our forum posts to help educate attendees on the power of Article V and the need for a Convention of States:
It is hard to find another point in American history when we have been so deeply divided about the direction of our government. The contrast between the previous and current administrations could not be more pronounced. Many people believe that government has broken the bounds of our Constitution and is trying to provide for all our needs rather than protect our unalienable rights under a republican form of government.
Americans find themselves despairing over a bloated federal entities designed to strip power from the individual and transfer it to Washington. The States are no longer the authority on all matters not enumerated in the Constitution. Instead, they are enslaved to federal overreach, compelled to obey and rewarded by receiving back the tax dollars taken from the pockets of their own citizens.
The national debt, surpassing $28 trillion, is our treasury's gift to future generations. Citizens turn to their elected representatives for relief, only to find these legislative decisions are being made by a minuscule number of elite, career politicians who control Congress through internal seniority rules while stripping the elected body of agency. These individuals seek to advance a Marxist agenda and have perfected the use of our systems to effect social change.
Unelected bureaucrats permeate the ever-growing offices of over 430 departments and agencies, unanswerable to the citizens and to the legislative branch.
While this truly an age of despair for many, it is also an age anticipated by our 1787 Founding Fathers. They predicted We the People would need express constitutional authority to further draw the boundaries of a limited government.
That is why they unanimously wrote and approved Article V which enables the Staes “on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds“ to “call a Convention for proposing Amendments.” Our Founders knew a corrupted Congress would not reform itself.
Hope in this dark time rests on our ambitions for a Convention of States.
