How to Buy Votes and Let Everyone Else Pay For It
by Patti Buxton, Regional Coordinator, R1
Let’s see… President Biden wanted to run for a second term as President. Is it even possible to list all of the ways he has failed the American people for the past two years? Do you think he has more schemes that result in higher taxes that he wants to impose on us? Today the Supreme Court began hearing oral arguments on the issue of forgiving, or canceling the outstanding debt on some student loans.
The aggregate balance is about one trillion dollars, give or take some pocket change. If Joe wants to let the debtors off the hook, the colleges and universities that got the money via their inflated tuition prices should be the target. But now he wants us to pony up for his brilliant plan. Thanks a lot, Joe, but don’t you know we are already dealing with your money-printing inflation? Please, no more of your Ideas. Instead, go chase down those schools with their fat endowments. Wouldn’t it make more sense to lower the payments for a while?
To most people, this forgiveness of student loans, which was essentially a tax on all Americans, should have been dealt with in the Congress. The Supreme Court took the case which seems to answer the question of whether or not Biden is able to solicit loan forgiveness. If they find that he is not able, then Joe’s plan is tossed out. If they find that he does have the right, then up goes our debt again by another trillion.
The American taxpayer could expect to pay out of pocket for the loans none of us applied for. That idea is so unthinkable to me that I began to think that maybe we could talk Joe into rebates for all the Americans who took out a student loan and then paid it off on time; like my kids did. My children deserve a pat on the back for doing the right thing. What do you think? What about your kids or yourself?
Two Standout Constitution Alive Courses Pertinent to COS
by Dale Maris, SW Ohio Regional Captain
Having recently hosted Rick Green’s Constitution Alive course for six consecutive Mondays, I noted two standout episodes I thought I’d share with all COS supporters in Ohio.
Please consider viewing the below videos, particularly if you have never watched them, but even if you have.
The Amendment Process, Episode 10
The citizens of the United States know more about America’s needs than the government. Discover why laws are better respected by citizens when they come directly from “We the People” and not the government.
Learn about the Constitutional amendment process as outlined in Article V by two patriots, David Barton and Rick Green, as they narrate Episode 10 of the Constitution Alive series: The Amendment Process, Episode 10 can be found easily on YouTube.
Duty of the Citizen, Episode 11
We have a duty as citizen to elect public officials who are committed to upholding the principles instituted by our Founding Fathers. It is also imperative that we teach future generations these principles. Duty of the Citizen, Episode 11 also easily found on YouTube.
How better to live out our duty as Americans than to immerse in a Constitution course so we can instruct others. For more information about Rick Green’s Patriot Academy, visit

All Politics is Local
by Chris Colvin and Diana Telles
In 2018, Waynesville Village Council passed a local non-binding resolution in support of the Convention of States movement. The action was initiated by COS supporter and volunteer Chris Colvin who stressed that we should inspire leaders to focus on the COS Resolution as a binding state document thus eluding petty opposition arguments which are nothing more than distractions.
More recently, Chris Colvin similarly petitioned the Wayne Township Trustees to consider the passage of a local non-binding resolution in support of COS. Living in the Village of Waynesville, Chris currently serves on the Waynesville Village Council and lives in Wayne Township allowing him to petition the trustees as a citizen of the township.
On February 7, 2023, Roger Gibb (HD 55/56 DC), with the support of at least twenty COS advocates, offered a fifteen-minute PowerPoint presentation about the COS movement to Wayne Township trustees. He was well-received and was rebutted by one long-time opponent in attendance. Official opposition testimony was heard two weeks later on February 21 as well as several proponent rebuttals. The decision of the trustees is pending.
In petitioning the Trustees, Chris presented them with a copy of COS Ohio’s House Joint Resolution 1 (HJR 1) which defines what the COS process will be at an amendment convention. He informed the trustees that HJR 1, like all state COS resolutions, is binding with legal ramifications for violations of the resolution’s stated purpose by delegates or the federal government. Chris stated that the rule of law does matter, and those opposing HJR 1 on the conjecture of a “runaway” with disregard for the rule of law is an untenable position to support.
Chris encouraged the Wayne Township trustees to not only take action with a non-binding resolution but also to engage with the Ohio legislature. If Wayne Township shows its support of COS by passing its own resolution, an official letter to Senator Steve Wilson and Representative Scott Lipps will be sent requesting that they support COS in the Ohio House and Senate.
As COS moves forward, local government needs to be an active participant in restoring the principles of the U.S. Constitution that the citizens of Waynesville support, and local legislators took an oath to protect. The number one priority of your township government is to protect the rights of its citizens. Passage of the COS resolution is their Constitutional responsibility precisely to defend the rights of citizens.
Please support COS leaders and all who support the Convention of States. All politics is local. Consider the value of promoting the COS resolution in your own municipality.
The Parable of the Dying Nation
by Diana Telles
A once exceptional nation of free citizens was facing its demise following years of yielding to an overbearing Federal Government that disregarded its Constitution. The troubled citizens cried out for help.
A prominent voice from the past echoed, “For times such as these, Article V of the Constitution allows citizens to write amendments that can restore the Constitution and promote federalism.”
The troubled citizens shouted back, “No, it’s okay, we can just elect the right people next time.”
The Federal Government grew, freedoms abated, and citizens became increasingly desperate. Patriotism waned and troubled citizens cried out for help.
The prominent voice returned, “An Article V Convention of States allows the citizens to push back against the tyranny of a runaway Federal Government.”
To this, the troubled citizens responded, “No thanks. We cannot risk a runaway Article V convention!”
Time passed. The national debt reached 31.6 trillion dollars, and the rights of the free citizen protected by the Constitution and Bill of Rights have been fiercely challenged like never before. Troubled citizens cried out for help.
The wise voice from the past reacted, “Article V of the Constitution expressly allows the citizens to propose amendments that can advance liberty, the likes of which will never originate in Congress.”
To this the desperately troubled citizens replied, “No thanks. We just need to follow the Constitution we have and nullify all the laws with which we disagree.”
So the Federal Government grew so large that the freedoms of this once exceptional nation were now whittled away. What was once a Beacon of Hope in the world has been snuffed out. In anguish, the troubled citizens called out, “We tried to elect the right people. We protected this country from a runaway convention. We tried to nullify offensive laws.”
To this the voice from the past responded sadly, “We poured out our great wisdom when we gave you the Constitution. We negotiated. We faced uncertainty of a new and unique system of government, for the people and by the people. We gave the citizens the opportunity to invoke Article V, understanding well that it is in the nature of government to grow and freedoms to wane. The people could have saved our precious country, but repeatedly denied the use of Article V out of fear. It is done. Rest in Peace, America.”

Happy Hour Invitation!
by Ron Arndt, State Communications Coordinator
District Captains and Regional Captains, I am the State Communications Coordinator for Ohio. The purpose of this outreach is threefold: First, our Ohio COMMS team is looking for ways to get and remain connected with you; Second, we want RCs and DCs to share the positive things happening across our state and third, we want to learn what’s going on in your House District and share it with your colleagues. We believe we all need to hear about the good things happing in your part of the state. I’m asking you to take a minute and a half to click on this link to watch my video. As a former DC, I often felt isolated, I didn’t know what other DCs were doing in their districts, or what were some of the best practices to engage more Ohio patriots in our COS journey. Our intent is simple, communicate with you using our new Slack Channel we call The Happy Hour.
So, what’s in it for you? If you join the Happy Hour, it will be a place for you to learn about best practices from other successful DCs and RCs. You’ll be able to ask questions and learn from others who have already done it. You’ll get to share your brilliance with others. And it becomes a place where we all get to hear of your successes, your upcoming events, and your needs for help. Plus, you’re going to make friends from all over Ohio.
So come on, take this step, and join the Happy Hour channel where all RCs and DCs hang out, learn, share, and never have to get inebriated. Stop what you’re doing, open your Slack app on your phone or computer, click on the COS Ohio Leadership tab, then scroll down to join our Happy Hour Slack Channel on the left side of the page. Share something; anything, even a photo. Just get there and become part of the family. We’re looking for any excuse to brag about you.
