The Sound of Freedom
Saving Our Freedom, Restoring Self Governance
www.conventionofstates.com Vol 3, February 2023
Stopping Radical Change
by Thomas Quarrie
People are asking, ’What the hell is happening to our country?’ It seems clear to me that some radical changes have come into play. Nobody ever voted for them, nobody wants them and, in fact, almost everybody considers them a major travesty. Still, the Federal Government continues to implement policies that carry a hugely negative impact for Americans. This upside-down governance is the result of power- hungry leadership and entrenched bureaucracy gone wild. Until we take our government back from the deep state we will continue to watch from the sidelines as our liberty is replaced by a tyranny of the left. We can expect an even bigger ration of the following:
● More intrusion on our lives from mass migration
● Continued destruction of the currency from reckless spending
● Further weaponization of DOJ, FBI, & IRS to control all of us
● Radical left indoctrination playing out in schools
● Frightening rise of street dwelling, drugs and crime in cities
Examples of all of the above are everywhere you look: the southern border, inflation at the grocery store and gas pump, the criminal pursuit of Donald Trump and January 6 protesters. And let’s not forget about the leftist effort at indoctrination of our school children with their phony critical race theory.
If we agree that this is a fair description of reality, we should then ask, ‘Where do we start with solutions?’ This is where the rubber meets the road (Ross Perot would say). We need to clean out the swamp. This process must include abandonment of selected major agencies and reform of others. Do we really need a department of education, a department of energy or a department of homeland security that refuses to secure our border? Additional action is required to reduce our reliance on unelected bureaucrats. This form of permanently unresponsive rule is no longer acceptable. Self governance requires leadership that is focused sharply on the national interest, not some half- baked agenda of social justice or woke ideology. The time is now for Congress to declare war on the swamp. They have the power of the purse. Cut off the money, and the swamp will dry up and blow away like tumbleweeds in a tornado. It is possible that Congress could get it done, but they could use some major help from the states.
An open debate on how to untangle the Washington rats nest will serve us well. A gathering of representatives from all fifty states will come up with needed solutions to the abuse of federal power and, best of all, with zero input from the Feds. COS supporters must convince our Ohio reps to put passage of the convention resolution atop their priority list. They are a
necessary part of saving our country. The states created the federal government with the writing of the U.S. Constitution, and the Article V convention is intended to be the people’s leash on federal power.
We COS supporters must get our Ohio reps to put passage of a COS resolution to a floor vote. It’s really pretty simple: hold the convention, suggest some amendments. and get them ratified. When our Ohio legislature fails to act in this regard, they are removing our best tool to fix the problems that threaten us. Face-to-face conversations with them will help to elevate their thought process to the national level. We will show them the above bullet list and ask them to consider what amendments they might suggest should they become a commissioner to the convention. My next interview with our District #83 rep will end with a gift of Mark Levin’s book, The Liberty Amendments. I will let him know how many of his constituents have signed our petition and that I will be keeping them up to date on his position on COS. He will also understand that an Article V convention can light the way back from government by swamp. That’s right Mr. Rep, no more power-hungry morons and lefty schemers at the helm. We can return the power to the states where it belongs.
Patriot Pin Award Winner: Patti Buxton
by Diana Telles, State Media Liaison
If you are ever lucky enough to call Patti Buxton on the phone, in the first moments of your conversation you’ll feel her energy, her sense of humor, and her zealous patriotism. How fitting she should become this year’s first recipient of the coveted Convention of States Patriot Pin award! This distinction is offered to grassroots volunteers, like Patti, who show dedication, passion, and patriotism in the ongoing effort to pass the COS resolution in Ohio.
Devoted to the movement since 2015, Patti currently serves as Regional Captain for Region One, having served as a District Captain prior to that. She is one of the founders, writers, and editors of Ohio’s Sounds of Freedom newsletter which has become an informative and well-read monthly publication. In addition, Patti has done exemplary work making contact and maintaining relationships with state legislators. She most recently called the offices of 44 House Republicans just to thank them for voting for Derrick Merrin in accordance with the Republican caucus. Such positive connections with legislators are key to passing the COS resolution in Ohio.
According to Assistant State Director Amy Frederick, Patti is known to volunteer for “everything.” Patti claims her mother is to blame for her passion for volunteerism. She was encouraged as a young girl by her mother to offer entire days as a babysitter for families attending a blood drive at a local church. Patti also recognizes her high level of motivation is the result of being raised in a time when civics was actually taught and retained.
With a passion for both volunteerism and patriotism coursing through her veins, Patti easily committed to COS during her later years with the Tea Party after hearing Mark Meckler discuss the movement. How fortunate for COS Ohio that such a connection was made. Patti has been a key grassroots volunteer for COS Ohio ever since. Says Amy Frederick of Patti, “She has long deserved to be acknowledged for the volunteer that she is. Patti’s outstanding commitment to COS is simply unparalleled and greatly appreciated.”
Communications Team at Ohio COS Seeks Eager Grassroots Volunteer
by Diana Telles, State Media Liaison
The COS Ohio Communications team is looking for a volunteer to join our small department of patriots devoted to passing our resolution in the state of Ohio and nationwide. We seek someone willing to become an intimate part of our communications team who not only believes strongly in our mission but is willing to contribute time and talent to achieve it.
Our new cohort must be reliable, committed, open to differing points of view, and willing to work well with our team. Duties will generally include writing, maintaining relationships with grassroots volunteers, helping launch our speaker’s bureau, and likely something new and exciting every single month.
Salary is not negotiable since there isn’t one! You will be issued a shiny new email address personalized just for you. You’ll also have an opportunity to buy your very own business cards!
Please understand, COS Ohio grassroots volunteers are a group of achievers who work tirelessly to promote real, positive change in our country. There is much satisfaction in the work we undertake in our effort to inform Ohio. We are compensated immeasurably in the relationships we build with other like-minded COS volunteers. We work remotely but enjoy many opportunities throughout the year to meet in person.

Happy Hour for District, Regional Captains, and All Leadership!
By Diana Telles, State Media Liaison
Please take notice of a new Slack channel in Ohio Leadership called, “Happy Hour to Toast COS Events.” The COS Ohio Comms is hoping to improve its communication with DCs and RCs and make it easier for them to drop in quick tidbits of information about events happening in their areas. As Media Liaison, I’m hoping to capture basic information from COS activities throughout the state and use it to tease local media outlets.
Basic information includes the name of the event, where it took place, the audience, attendance numbers, any COS speakers who may have participated, legislators who may have been involved, and anything pertinent that might pique the interest of local media.
It would be great if our leaders can make a habit of joining Comms for “Happy Hour” so we can generate more media stories across the state that promote the hard work being done by COS grassroots volunteers.
