The Federal government mismanaged billions of taxpayer dollars during the COVID-19 pandemic. In one such instance, Whitewater Unified School District in Wisconsin spent $1.6 million to upgrade athletic fields meant for students and schools to recover financially.

The project was part of a $190 billion Federal grant for schools to recover after COVID-19. However, the grant did not limit how school districts use these funds as long as they spent at least 20 percent helping students recover from learning loss and return to school safely.

However, the grant funds were not tied to seeking improvement in Math and English in their students. Instead, the grants were used by schools to support the existing priorities of school management, which were unrelated to improving the students' performance.
