Convention of States Missouri
Strategy Meeting for Volunteers with Assigned Roles
Date: TBD (Last update: 9/22/19)
2019-20 Goals
- Eliminate the Sunset Clause
- Pass the Faithful Commissioner Resolution
- Grow the Grassroots
How will we achieve these goals?
- It’s a group effort – you are not alone.
- Act, Learn and Adjust
Actions you can take to achieve your goals:
- Contact your representatives now and in 2020
- Contact the supporters in your district and ask them to contact their representative
- Write letters to your local newspapers
Learning resources:
- Legislative Liaisons can help you with advice about interacting with your representatives
- The State Communications Team can assist in writing email blasts to your district.
- The State Director or your Regional Coordinator can help with any other concerns or needs you may have.
Adjust:
- As you learn, teach. Meet with and help other volunteers in your area.
- Get to know your local government and the opportunities for promoting the Convention of States.
- Recruit petition signers to be volunteers and then recruit volunteers to become your core team.
The Sunset Clause and the Faithful Commissioner Resolution
- Spearheaded by the State Leadership Team and the Legislative Liaisons.
- You play an auxiliary role but you are the ‘eyes and ears’ in your district.
- If you see it or hear it, share it.
Growing the Grassroots
- This is where you take the lead.
- The Grassroots Coordinators and the Regional Coordinators are there to help you…you are not alone.
- The District Captains in your, if any, can also be a valuable resource.
Any questions?
Tools available to help you achieve your goals:
Ok…now let’s focus on the tools available to help you achieve your goals. The Missouri State Leadership Team is available to help. Please refer to Handout No._____{Whom Do I Ask?}
Citizen Builder and COS University
- Logging in.
- What is a ‘confirmed account?’ It means you have set up a password on Citizen Builder using the email you provided when you signed the petition.
- I can’t log in. What do I do? See Handout No.____{Whom Do I Ask?
- My Citizen Builder account doesn’t look like what I see on webinars or COS University. That is because your visual will depend upon your designated role. Most District Captains and their team members will have access to:
- Dashboard/People/Users
- Dashboard/Tools/FUT
- Dashboard/Tools/District Dashboard
- Dashboard/Help
- Login/Leaders Directory
- Login/Melissa Search and Detailed Lookup

- Am I allowed to take courses? Are they free? Yes and yes.
- What courses are available? It depends upon your volunteer role with the Convention of States. If you can see the course, you can take the course.
Slack
- How many channels are there? Depends on your responsibilities. Most common are:
- MO_COS – For Missouri only.
- COSDC – Open to District Captains and their D.C. Team Members country wide. A good place to learn from others in your peers.
- COS Passed States – Open to volunteers from Missouri. A good place to learn from and help others in Passed States.
- COS Coalitions Directors – if you have also volunteered as a Coalitions Director, i.e. Veterans – VCD, you should be on this channel.
- COS Comms – if you are also a Social Media Warrior, a Media Liaison, State Content Writer or State Communications Coordinator, you should be on this channel.
- Hand-out Number _____TBD provides useful information for using Slack. {This will be Michael Alexander’s notes.}
RoundCube (the COSAction email account)
- When do we use it?
- To communicate with other COS volunteers.
- If necessary, to communicate with individual supporters; however, a copy of your communication should be added to their profile.
- If you send an email to a supporter from their profile and they respond, it will arrive in RoundCube, not their profile. It is best to make a copy of same by highlighting their response, and copying and pasting it into their profile notes.
Patriot Games
- {Ask Brett to provide info}
