The Convention of States movement is built on the backs of our volunteers. This grassroots army is truly made up of average citizens just like you who have decided to step up and get involved.

One of the key roles in our organization is our District Captains (DC). These men and woman are the ones who are active in their communities in spreading the word about the COS solution and helping get others involved.

Here is a short Q&A to get some insight to better know your local DC, Aaron Levisay.

Q:  How long have you been involved with COS?
A: Since January, 2021.

Q:  What was the big item/thing that drew you into becoming a volunteer/leader?
A: I’ve known for a long time the only way to fix our country is to amend the
Constitution directly via Article V. It really is the only way.

Q:  What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned in regard to COS or the U.S. Constitution?
A: Really how completely easy and simple the solution is. Article V is RIGHT THERE in the body of the U.S. Constitution, just waiting for people to use it to restore it.

Q:  How active were you in politics/government before COS?
A: Not at all.

Q:  What is it like being a district captain?
A: Challenging, but fun. Going to events and explaining the Constitution and Article V is great, though. People just don’t know, but more are learning.

Q:  Which of the three pillars of COS do you feel is most important?
A: Restoring federalism. This is supposed to be a government of, by, and for the people. It cannot be that without true federalism, really.

Q:  Why do you believe in the COS movement?
A: Again, it’s truly the only way to restore true federalism and local and state decision-making back to the American people. There is no other way.

Q:  What has been your most rewarding aspect of being involved with COS so far?
A: Oh, meeting so many amazing like-minded people. And also, seeing the faces of people who sign the petition and realizing so many people know this is such a problem (i.e. federal overreach and control) and being happy there IS a solution to it.

Q:  Has there been any big challenge you have overcome? What was it?
A: Oh, sure. Just being done from 29 years in the military and transitioning to true civilian life again. But it’s time and that’s why I’m giving some of that time to COS.

Q:  What is the support for COS like in your district?
A: It’s here and there, honestly. I do think people, more and more, are starting to hear about it, but many haven’t, quite frankly.

Q:  What would you say to someone who is on the fence regarding Article V COS?
A: I’d ask: “How is anything going to be different tomorrow if we continue doing nothing today?”

If Washington, D.C. was going to reform itself, it would have done so decades ago. That is not happening, and it will never happen. People need to realize that.

Also, people need to stop this odd mindset where they love the U.S. Constitution so much but, somehow, they’re afraid to use it to restore it. That really makes no sense. It’s like saying, “I really need to lose weight!” but then never eat differently and/or not go to the gym or exercise, etc.

Our Constitution will never be restored until we use the provision to restore it that our Founding Fathers put in there! And it’s foolishness to think that anything else will do the trick. There is no other way. Truly.

Q:  How can people in your area get involved?
A: We’d love them on our team! No, seriously, we just need folks to first sign the petition and then just come hang out with us at events (which, there will be more of now that it’s getting into summer). Just let people know about it. Once we're done with that, start emailing and calling your state legislators and let’s get this done!

Q:  What has been the most rewarding part of being part of the COS team?
A: Seeing the passion and enthusiasm of folks, starting with Shirlee Meier, our State Director for South Dakota, and how much she truly cares about it here in the states. She took us in a busload of people for the Article V resolution in our state legislature in February (which failed sadly, but we will get there), and it was awesome.

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: I’d just like to add that people CAN make a difference, and that COS Article V is the way. Sign the petition (first), then email and contact legislators (second), and then hang out and get involved with us. Let’s make this happen!

This is something you can tell your kids, grandkids, and generations to come you were a part of. I can’t think of a better legacy!
