On December 5, Mark Meckler, President of the Convention of States, traveled to Manhattan to do a presentation at the Gertrude & Morrison Parker Westside Republican Club.

Mark began his speech by explaining to the audience that, prior to the advent of the Tea Party movement, he had not been active in politics. A viral video on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange by Rick Santelli, the Business News Editor for CNBC, caught his attention on television and sparked his involvement.

Here are some excerpts of Mark Meckler's speech from my personal video.

Another interesting fact mentioned in Mark's speech is that the very first nationwide protest occurred on February 27, 2009. On just seven days' notice, 35 events were planned across the country and were attended by approximately 39,000 people of all political affiliations, not just conservatives. This led to the more well-known event held on April 15, 2009, which brought out about 1.2 million protestors.

Want to hear more? You can listen to the entire presentation, filmed by our Convention of States New York Videographer Eddie Cheaz.
