Supporter of COS Ohio:
Thank you for taking the time to write to your legislator in support of the Convention of States movement!
We have reached out to you specifically because your senator, Sen. Steve Wilson, has indicated he supports Convention of States, but appreciates hearing from his constituents on the movement. Let's flood his office!
It is understood that hand-written letters are a highly effective tool for influencing elected officials. While these are best, it's fine to type them. Additionally, sending a quick online submission to his office in addition to a letter rounds out your effort nicely.
Below is a sample letter to use as a guide if you are in need of inspiration. It is important that your letter is clear and as unique as possible. Each letter should be worded somewhat differently so please pepper in your own verbiage using what we have suggested below.
We do want to be sure to compliment our Sen. Wilson on any recent or ongoing legislative efforts which we have listed below.
If you have any questions at any point in your letter-writing, please contact Roger Gibb at roger.gibb@cosaction.com.
Sample Ohio letter to be mailed to Sen. Wilson:
Month x, 2023
Dear Sen. Wilson,
Please accept my sincere appreciation for your commitment to the state of Ohio. Also know I respect elected officials like you who are willing to face the challenge of balancing family life with time spent in Columbus representing our district.
In addition, I applaud you on your initiative with the ______bill and ______ bill this past year. I was in support of this legislation and am satisfied the intent of such bills helped forward conservative values in Ohio which are important to me.
I write to you today to promote the Convention of States (COS) movement in Ohio and ask for your support of a COS resolution this General Assembly. For ten long years, we have been urging the Ohio legislature to invoke Art V of the U.S. Constitution, joining the 19 states who have passed a COS resolution thus far.
It is clear to me that Washington is broken and is in the hands of people who do not share my values of freedom and liberty. I am firmly in favor of holding a limited amending convention for addressing:
- Term limits on Congress and all Federal Offices,
- Overreach of the Federal Government, and
- Fiscal Restraints on the Federal Government.
Amendments such as these are the best way citizens and states can push back against our overbearing Federal Government. We must bring power back to the states!
Please support the Convention of States and vote for this resolution when it makes its way to committee and the floor of the Ohio Senate. Thank you so much for your consideration on this important opportunity to promote liberty in our state and country.
Sincerely,
First name Last name,
Senate District 7
