Below are a few of the many legislators and other influential Iowans who support Convention of States.
Rep. John Wills, Speaker Pro Tempore
“During my 25 years in the military, I served in a lot of places in the world. I saw tyrants. Not once did I meet a tyrant who was willing to give up his power. We cannot expect Washington DC to give up their power. We have to tell them what to do for the sake of our country. We have to limit the power of the federal government. With Article V, we can change Washington DC and take back our country.”
Sen. Jesse Green, Local Government Chair
“The Article V Convention of States is a paramount tool that our founders gave us to maintain checks and balances in Washington when the federal government has become too irresponsible and cannot live within its means. It is one of the last options we have to limit the power of Washington on the American people.”
Rep. Shannon Lundgren, Commerce Chair
“Article V Convention of States gives us, We the People, the power to make a change with our federal government. We all know that the foresight of our founding fathers decided that it was important that We the People have the control over what our government says and does. It is definitely time that we take a stand and rein in our federal government to ensure that our future generations have the opportunity to live in the free country that our veterans fought for.”
Rep. Bill Gustoff, Judiciary Vice Chair
“I love our federal Constitution and that it has weathered the test of time as the best constitution in the history of human governance. I also love that the framers foresaw a time when the restraints on federal power would reach too far and built right into the document a way for the states to tame that tyranny—the Article V convention of states. Federal officials will never lay down the power they have grabbed, and trusting the people is the only way to turn the direction of our country back to what the Founding Fathers had in mind.”
Bob Vander Plaats, President and CEO of The FAMiLY Leader
“I believe the time has come for the states to use their power under Article V of the Constitution to put the brakes on our runaway federal government. It is obvious that Washington has no intention of reining in its profligate spending, its trampling of our freedoms, its stranglehold on public education, or its dictating its woke agenda on our families and businesses. For years I have joined Iowans in trying to use our influence in national politics to turn things around, but $32 trillion of debt alone proves that elections are not going to fix this problem.”
Kim Lehman, former Iowa Republican National Committeewoman
“It has become necessary to gain support for a constitutional remedy through the Convention of States since our hope to fix government through elections has been usurped by massive election fraud. We the people have a choice; either continue the cycle of losing our freedom, or stop those in power by calling a Convention of States and fix it. Since the elections in many states are rigged, the choice is clear. We must have the courage at the grassroots to call the Convention of States.”
