The Illinois team has an exceptionally dedicated member that deserves to be recognized for her diligent service as Illinois State Information Analyst!
In 2016, Marty Benner got involved in Convention of States because she wanted to be a part of something meaningful in her retirement. She currently volunteers in tech support for the Illinois team, and an additional five other states in the Sellers Region.
When asked about important tasks that her role consists of, she said, “One of my most important jobs as a State Information Analyst is training people. Many of our leaders are not that comfortable with technology, yet they have to use it to do their remote work. When I'm on a training call, I can tell within a few minutes the level of experience they have and I tailor my terminology and training methods to their level. I don't teach the subject matter, I teach the person.”
Benner also has impressive goals she hopes to accomplish during her journey with Convention of States. First, as an organization, she hopes to be a part of ensuring we have District Captains in every one of the 118 Illinois house districts. Second, she wants to work toward Illinois being the first blue state that passes the resolution in both houses.
When asked about advice she might give to new members joining the movement, she said, “My advice for new members is to be patient. We have an enormous job to do, and while we will get it done, it will take time to get it done right. Building the grassroots is the most important and we are trying to do this with minimal help from the media. It takes longer to spread the word one person at a time, but it makes for a very strong foundation. So be patient, learn, and educate others.”
Thank you Marty for all your important and dedicated work!
