FOLLOWUP TOOL TEAM BASIC GUIDE
Welcome Wagon — FUT (foot) Soldiers
1st things 1st - EDUCATE YOURSELF!
- COS Handbook (25 pp)
- Proposing Constitutional Amendments by a Convention of States - Natelson (42 pp)
You may be the first COS volunteer each contact hears from. It's important you are prepared to answer questions, answer opposition, and know when it's time to say, “I don't know” and have someone get back to them. Even though your primary job is to simply welcome and thank, if they have questions, it's great if you are prepared to answer as many as possible. Now, for the job…
First, some housekeeping:
- Check their name & be sure the first letter of each name is capitalized and the rest is not (Steven, not STEVEN, and Smith, not smith).
- If their email address shows as invalid, first, consider if there may be a typo. (i.e. captinobvious@gmail.com, try captainobvious.gmail.com) If it's not obvious, don't try to fix.
- If their zip code shows only the standard 5 numbers and does not include the +4, then perform an address lookup to resolve (the +4 can change the state House district).
The Welcome Process
- Within the first 24-48 hours, send FUT #1 email. This email will:
- acknowledge if they are a veteran
- thank them or encourage them to sign, based on whether or not they already signed the petition
- introduce their DC or encourage them to apply if they don't have one
- acknowledge if they've expressed volunteer interest
- Within the next 24-48 hours (DCs and RCs can't see their contacts when you're holding them In Progress), go to the In Progress tab and send FUT #2 email and call the contacts on the phone (no texting):
- when you call, add a Contact Log note in the contact record indicating whether you had meaningful interaction, left a message, etc.
- when you send the email, click the Send & Complete button (if you accidentally, click just send, scroll all the way to the bottom, enter a comment and click Complete
- Your done! Thank you!
IMPORTANT: We do not use the FUT to recruit, with the exception of guiding a contact to the Take Action tab in the event they ask and answering any questions they may have about the various roles. Recruiting is ultimately the job of the DC/RC.
Stay connected with your team
- join your Florida Slack team and #fut_private channel
- watch your emails and texts from Convention of States
- join (as many as possible) national and state information calls for which you receive invites - you can see some on the calendar and in the leaders roundup
NOTE 1: It's not your job, but always feel free to share your referral link with others to learn about and join the mission (e.g. http://conventionofstates.com/?ref=#### …use your own referral link found in your profile).
- NOTE 2: Never be afraid to ask for help! That’s what your state leadership team is for, and that’s what the other FUT Team members are for.
