Exactly one year ago today, Wisconsin became the 16th state to pass the Convention of States Resolution calling for a reining in of the federal government.
Just three days later on January 28, Nebraska became the 17th state to call for a convention – the official halfway point to reaching the 34-state requirement.
“Please join in congratulating Team Wisconsin on their anniversary of passage of the COS Resolution in the Senate,” said Regional Director Catherine Zemanek. “They are now a part of history as the application has been entered into the record in Washington, D.C. Congrats, WI!”
Following Wisconsin's passage in the state legislature, the left-wing secretary of state stalled filing the Convention of States Application to the U.S. Congress despite the state legislature passing the Resolution. After state leaders threatened legal action against the secretary, the official documents were promptly sent to Congress.
“Thank goodness our Constitution has given the states and the people a framework to step in and save the Republic when Congress will not. Today we sent a message that Wisconsin stands ready to rein in federal overreach,” said Wisconsin State Senator Kathy Bernier following the historic vote. Read more here.
In total four states passed the Resolution in 2022, bringing us to a total of 19 states. These enormous feats were a direct result of passionate, relentless patriots on the ground in their state legislatures.
A common question among supporters is why calling for a Convention of States is a slow process when it's such an urgent matter. This is because any resolution must pass through committees in the House and Senate before each chamber can take a vote on the matter. The legislative process is delayed even longer when special interest groups influence state representatives to vote against our Resolution and when dishonest politicians say they support limiting the power of the federal government, and then betray their own word.

However, that doesn't prevent our movement from pushing forward with success. The COS Resolution has been officially introduced in nine states in 2023 and 20 states are expected to consider the Resolution this year. Montana became the first state of 2023 to pass the resolution out of committee on Tuesday.
More passages are expected in the coming weeks and months so make sure to follow COSA on Facebook and check back on the blog for breaking news updates.
