The Webster dictionary defines a flash mob as a group of people summoned (as by e-mail or text message) to a designated location at a specified time to perform an indicated action before dispersing.

The colonial delegates also received spontaneous invitations to join a group, were assembled quickly (relatively speaking for the 18th century) in a specific location and at a specified time, and to perform a specific purpose. Back in the day, citizens called these gatherings “convention” or “assemblies.”  Today we call it a flash mob.

It was this practice of self-governance, conventions of delegations were called to establish rules among themselves and to resolve intra-state matters. A flash mob of sorts!  Don’t be too surprised, sometime in the very near future, a really big flash mob assembles at a designated location for the specific purpose of invoking Article V of the U.S. Constitution. Be a part of history!  Sign the petition!
