Republics fail when they become fiscally irresponsible. Combined with a global crisis like the COVID-19 outbreak, that irresponsibility quickly turns into a national economic disaster.
Dr. Coburn was among the most forward-thinking statesmen in our nation's history. He knew that our country's finances were in trouble, which is why he worked tirelessly to promote the Convention of States movement.
“The question is, how do we cheat history? All the other republics failed over fiscal issues just like we're about to do. But our Founders gave us a wonderful opportunity. They put it in the Constitution and they said that the states could call a Convention of States,” he said.
