The needs to express ourselves, our identity, our creativity, and freedom are God-given rights built into our genes.

When we are learning to walk, we pull ourselves up and hold on to the back of the chair to take a step forward. Slowly, we move away from the safety of the chair and the protection of our parents expressing our new-found autonomy (self-governance), independence (self-reliance), and freedom.

It's an exciting time. A taste of freedom! A child learning to walk is a natural break away from parents. It is a time when children find and express their independence.

Even during the terrible twos (a stage characterized by rebelliousness when children resist authority as they do again in adolescence), it is also an exciting time for parents. Their child is growing up.

We are created by God to be free and keep moving forward. As children grow and express their independence and autonomy, parent's cheer them on. The family is proud of the child's new accomplishments.

However, out of fear, some parents become stricter and force their children to obey. Coercion never works. It makes children afraid, angry, rebellious, and distrustful of others.

Freedom to make our own decisions and learn from our mistakes is how God made us. Today, in America, our freedom is threatened. Our natural drive towards self-determination, self-governance, autonomy, and freedom is being attacked by the overreach and tyranny of the United States government taking away individual and state rights.

“We the People,” begins the Constitution of the United States of America, indicating that the government was formed to serve the people and protect individual rights.

For over 200 years, the Constitution has served as the world's longest-surviving written charter, an example of freedom for people all over the world.

To this end, the Convention of States movement is on a mission to teach self-governance and bring the power back to the people where it belongs. The organization teaches citizen volunteer activists to speak up and protect our Constitution and Bill of Rights.
