COS National Update:
When we launched Convention of States, our goal
was clear: to create the most formidable
grassroots army in America, strategically positioned
in every state and congressional legislative district.
Today, we proudly stand as America's largest
grassroots network, covering every legislative
district in the nation. But with this honor comes a
great responsibility: to advocate for and pass
crucial state-level legislation that aligns with
our grassroots values. Unlike political parties that
only mobilize volunteers before elections, we
recruit, train, and deploy activists year-round,
committed to long-term action.
Here are some examples of what our dedicated
activists have achieved:
Louisiana: Our grassroots team championed
legislation to protect children from life-altering sex
change surgeries. When the governor vetoed the
bill, our team rallied, and the veto was overturned.
Thanks to COS activists, the children of Louisiana
are now safe from irreversible, experimental
procedures.
Texas: We stepped up when Harris County
needed election judges to oversee polling locations
that were known to have discrepancies. Our
activists swiftly recruited hundreds of election judge
applicants and then lobbied for election integrity
bills to secure free and fair elections. Now we're
replicating this project in Ohio, where we know it’s
needed, proving that the grassroots can bring real
change to election integrity across the nation.
These stories barely scratch the surface.
We've played vital roles in securing victories on
school choice, election integrity, border security,
and more. We've turned out the vote in various
elections, including school board races and
primaries.
And perhaps most importantly, we’ve passed the
Convention of States resolution through 19 states
— with many more preparing to file and vote in the
coming months.
With unwavering determination,
Mark Meckler
President

Utah Last Month:
At the Salt Lake County meeting last month
–
Wednesday, September 13, 2023
– We had
good discussions on the Constitution and
writing cards/letters to our state/local
Representatives and letting them know how we
want them to represent us and our values.
Can you write your state/local
Representative?
Here is a link to help you if you
don’t know who
it is - Utah State Legislative District Maps
District Map (utah.gov) \\
We even had a great surprise visit from Ken
Ivory, Representative of HD 39, here in Salt
Lake County.
Ken Ivory currently has 316 constitutes that are
COS supporters, so we are a good
organization that he knows he needs to go talk
with.
We would like to challenge ALL of our Utah
state/local Representatives to come and visit
with their COS constitutes at our COS In-
Person meetings. Feel free to email me and
we can get it scheduled:

Constitution Day
– Sept. 17th
Each year, on September 17th, Americans
celebrate Constitution Day!
The Constitution was written during the
Philadelphia Convention
—now known as the
Constitutional Convention
—which convened
from May 25 to September 17, 1787. It was
signed on September 17, 1787.

Legislative Liaison:
Be sure to contact your Legislators -
Elected officials represent our community and
our interests, so let them know who you are
and what you care about! Take time to
introduce yourself and your organization to
public officials serving your community
–
including both federal and state
representatives.
Make an appointment and discuss:
1- Their stance on Convention of States.
2- What Bills they are working on that COS
could possibly get behind and support.
3- Notify your District Captain, or Regional
Captain, or Legislative Liaison with the
results after contacting them.

The Federalist Papers:
Discover the Genius of the Constitution
–
Thomas Jefferson described The Federalist Papers
as “the best commentary on the principles of
government, which ever was written.”
You will gain a deeper understanding of the
purpose and structure of the American Founding by
studying the arguments of America’s most
influential Founders. Written between October
1787 and August 1788, The Federalist Papers is a
collection of newspaper essays written by James
Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay in
defense of the Constitution.
Explore the major themes of this classic work of
American politics, such as the problem of majority
faction, the importance of separation of powers, the
nature of the three branches of government, and
the argument concerning the Bill of Rights.
This will help you examine the greatest Constitution
ever written.
This is an urgent study of the Constitution and what
has been lost by the modern assault on it.
James Beer, District Captain in HD-35 selected this
quote from James Madison in Federalist #51:
“But what is government itself, but the greatest
of all reflections on human nature? If men
were angels, no government would be
necessary. If angels were to govern men,
neither external nor internal controls on
government would be necessary. In framing a
government which is to be administered by
men over men, the great difficulty lies in this -
you must first enable the government to control
the governed; and in the next place oblige it to
control itself.”
Thank you James!!!
We will learn more about the Federalist Papers
in future newsletters.
