COS National Update:
Mark Meckler remembers when Convention of
States was just getting started -
We didn’t have any
volunteers or a single state onboard. It was just a
handful of people, sitting around a table, talking
about the significance of the journey we were about
to embark on - We predicted that one day, as we hit
the tipping point, we would get Congress’s
attention.
They would hold hearings about us (which just
happened), and they might even start to discuss
trying to “appease the people” by tossing around
the idea of proposing amendments like term limits
or a balanced budget.
But when we hit that point of critical mass, we’d
also wake up our opposition. They would realize
that
“We the People,” working through the states,
posed the ultimate threat to undoing the decades of
progressive agenda they’ve shoved down our
throats, riding on the backs of corrupt bureaucrats
and politicians.
We can assure you that our opposition is awake.
We’ve seen everything from Soros operatives
testifying against us in state legislatures to hit
pieces in the news. But there was one more thing
we predicted on day one. We believed, and still do,
that on that day, the American people would rally.
That the silent majority would become the vocal
majority.
That they would say, “Enough is enough.
We will no longer sit idly by.” And we would serve
lifetime politicians their eviction notice.
Together, we would stand on the frontlines of
history as the states proposed and then ratified
amendments that would breathe life back into this
nation and ensure that our children and
grandchildren would enjoy the same freedoms we
once did. Today, we are standing at that tipping
point, and I’d like to invite you to join us. There is
much work to be done, and we can’t do it alone.
Mark Meckler

’l Last Month:
COS Champion Rep. Mike Johnson
Elected as Speaker of the House
After a weeks-long struggle to select the next
speaker of the House, Convention of States
supporter Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana clinched
the position on Wed. Oct. 25, 2023.
Before he was elected to Congress, Rep. Johnson
helped Louisiana become the 8th state to join the
movement as a member of the Louisiana House of
Representatives. In fact, he demonstrated his
knowledge on the subject when speaking in favor
several times on the floor before the COS Action
resolution was ultimately passed by a 62-36
margin.
“Regardless of party, regardless of political
ideology, I think one thing most of us…could agree
on is that the government has grown too large,” he
declared during debate in the Louisiana legislature
in 2016. “It's doing way more than the Founders
intended or designed it to do. And so, they had the
wisdom to put a safeguard in the Constitution.”
Last month Rep. Johnson chaired a congressional
committee hearing on the Article V convention
process:

Discover the Genius of the
USA Constitution:
“The Theme for this Month:
Remember Your Oath
”
As a reminder to each of you - what is it at
stake, I quote directly from the Declaration of
Independence
–
“But when a long train of abuses and
usurpations, pursuing invariably the same
Object evinces a design to reduce them under
absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their
duty, to throw off such Government, and to
provide new Guards for their future se
curity.”
May I now offer some words of encouragement
of my own: let us not succumb to fear, apathy,
and despair. As terrible as things may grow
over time, we ought to be encouraged so long
as we take part in our local communities.
Come hell or high water, let us spend this one
final time we have been granted by Our
Creator to labor in the vineyard and once again
make this republic a haven for all lovers of
liberty.” Thank you James.
