Message from our State Director
(SD), Scott Pratt: I would like to tell you
about the wonderful Convention of States (COS)
folks that I am privileged to associate with every
day. They are indeed the people that Joe Walsh
referred to when he penned Ordinary Average Guy.
Just ordinary people willing to stand for what is
good and right. Their efforts, however, are
extraordinary. Everyone has a story, and I could go
on for hours but here are just a few gems:
There is the brand-new volunteer from southern
Utah that despite physical challenges, dedicates a
goodly portion of her young life to the preservation
of Liberty. I wished you could meet the great
grandmother in Utah County that will never ever
quit, even in 104-degree heat when the rest of us
retreat into the shade of the exhibit canopy. I am
so inspired by the young woman barely out of her
teens who somehow, someway, finds the means to
take an active role from her remote family
subsistence farm in the Basin. There is the veteran
whose 20 years of service and multiple
deployments were “just not enough”. I work with a
two-time cancer survivor who absolutely will not
tolerate the tyranny being thrust on his young
daughter. There are so many who are just trying to
keep a roof over their head and food on the table.
A good percentage of the team are retired and
have worked a lifetime so that they could just relax
and “go fishin' ” in their twilight years. Yet here
they all are
– volunteering to save our country!!!
We all come from different places with diverse life
experiences and varied religious/philosophical
traditions, but it occurs to me that the glue that
binds us all together is Love. Love of life and that
which created it. Love of family and friends. Love
of liberty and the document in which it is enshrined.
Yeah, I'm just gonna put the “man's man” thing
aside and say it: I really Love these “ordinary
average guys.” If you are looking for a good home
for your patriotism, I cannot recommend a finer
place than here with the welcoming COS Utah
family.
“It's the singer not the song That makes the
music move along. Come on and join together with
the band.
” P. Townsend.

Message from our new State
Grass Coordinator (SGC):
My name is Mary Wenner, and I am an American
freedom fighter! I have been a patriot my whole life
but when Covid hit, we were locked down and
masked without the proper authority. I was
determined to protect our freedoms as Americans.
I joined the COS movement with the Intent to spend
my free time holding my elected officials
accountable to their oath of office. I began getting
educated at COS University and the Patriot
Academy, where I was introduced to Article V.
When I met the COS Utah team, I knew I had found
my volunteering home. The Utah team became my
immediate friends. When I learned Utah needed a
Grass Root Coordinator I volunteered. I still have a
lot to learn but I am enjoying the process and will
fight for our constitutional rights and try to be part of
the solution instead of the problem. Utah has a lot
of freedom loving patriots. We just need to unite
under a common cause and remind our elected
officials that they work for us. By doing this we will
provide a future for our kids and grandkids. I don't
want to leave them a large debt and a broken
government but a balanced budget with term limits
for our elected officials and stop the government
overreach into our personal liberties. Let's spread
the good news about COS and let our friends and
family know that Article V has the power to return
balance between the federal government and state
governments. Let’s do this together! God bless
you all and God bless America!
by Mary Wenner,
State Grassroots Coordinator

Monthly Spotlight:
Name: Jolene Phelps
COS Title: District Captain HD-44, and SGC
Team
City raised in: Mesa, Arizona
City current living in: South Jordan, Utah
Favorite Hobbies: I am completely in love with
Jesus! Studying about him in the Bible and in
various books is my most favorite thing to do!
What brought you to COS (Your Why):
I homeschooled our boys and a couple of years
ago we did the Constitutional Literacy class with
Michael Farris. It was amazing! I fell in love with
the Constitution. The course really opened my
eyes to see that our government has been corrupt
and off the rails for a very long time. I felt so
convinced that I had been asleep while our country
was being taken over by corrupt politicians and that
very soon our children would be the ones to pay the
price. At the end of the course, he spoke about
Convention of States. I was so excited that there
was a possible peaceful solution that I knew I had
to be part of this solution!
Inspirational thought: I love the quote
attributed to Edmund Burke, “The only thing
necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to
do nothing.”
More about You: I have the blessing of having a
wonderful husband of 21 years and three amazing
kids! Our oldest daughter was recently married to a
wonderful young man. Then we have two boys, 18
and 16. God has blessed me with the chance to
homeschool our two boys and that has taken most
of my time over the last 10 years. I have a degree
in accounting and was a CPA in AZ for many years
before I started to homeschool. My mom is
originally from Cuba. I was privileged to hear her
many stories of what it was like to grow up in a
communist country. I will never again take for
granted the freedoms we enjoy in the United
States! I will do all I can peacefully to help our
country stay free! I am so grateful to be working
with Convention of States, alongside such
passionate men and women who also care greatly
about keeping our country free!
