On Saturday, August 15, several volunteers from Convention of States New Jersey converged on a busy intersection in Montville to show support for law enforcement.
Covering each corner of the intersection, volunteers held signs and waved American flags, as passing motorist honked, waved, gave thumbs up, and overwhelmingly expressed support.
While some might say that this has nothing to do with Article V, amending the Constitution is only a means to an end. Ultimately, Convention of States is about building a grassroots army of engaged, educated, and self-governing citizens.
This event was a great example of self-governance in practice, and also demonstrates the commitment and passion of COS New Jersey volunteers.
There was no need for extensive planning, organization, publicity, incentives, prodding, or even advanced notice.
COS New Jersey volunteer Haydee Santana (a retired police officer herself) simply gave the details of the demonstration in a team Slack channel on August 11. Four days later seven fellow COS volunteers sacrificed their Saturday morning to show up, support the cause, and back the blue.
That extraordinary commitment typifies the COS New Jersey team and exemplifies the ethic of self-governance that Convention of States is really all about.
