Saturday, May 21, Armed Services Day, dawned sunny and hot, and a group of patriots met at the Mount Moriah AME and Brotherhood Cemeteries in Mount Holly, NJ for flag placement on the graves of our brave veterans. The event was organized by the Mount Holly Joint Veterans Memorial Committee.

Participating civic groups included NJ Disabled American Veterans Chapter 27, Women's League of Mount Holly and Rancocas Valley HS JROTC.

Representing Convention of States were Murn Myers, District 8 Captain, and Mary Bailey, State Content Writer. We were honored to serve in this endeavor alongside two of our elected representatives from NJ District 8, State Senator Jean Stanfield and Assemblyman Brandon Umba.

The morning concluded with fellowship and refreshments at VFW Post 2692 in Mount Holly. It was refreshing and encouraging to meet so many like-minded people in the area.

Volunteering in the community and developing relationships with our elected officials is important for the mission of COS. So also is learning about and appreciating the God-fearing patriotic heroes of America and particularly of our local area.

The western section of the Mount Moriah AME Cemetery is a focus of preservation by local citizens. It is the final resting place for at least one Civil War veteran, Edward B. Chapman. By honoring our history and our heroes, we are inspired in our work towards a Convention of States.
