Our movement was well-represented in Boston on September 24, as Convention of States Massachusetts State Director Michael Arnold and more than a dozen volunteers gave passionate testimony in favor of House Bill 3213 to the members of the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs.
“The day went as well as it possibly could have,” Arnold said after the long day before a panel of bipartisan elected officials. “We informed them, inspired them, and charged them with bringing the bill forward to the House and Senate for ratification.”
In all, 16 COS patriots were in attendance to provide their support. Five delivered testimony to the committee concerning a wide range of information and perspectives regarding Convention of States.
The combined efforts effectively addressed the three key tenants of the resolution: fiscal responsibility, term limits, and reversing D.C.’s bureaucratic sprawl in order to return power to the states.
The presentations also served to answer concerns and questions that have been raised about Article V of the Constitution.
The Joint Committee was co-chaired by Senator Walter Timilty (D-Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth) and Representative Linda Dean Campbell (D-Essex), who expressed gratitude for our efforts.
In the coming weeks the committee will reconvene to discuss the proposal and consider the testimony prior to a vote. That vote will determine if the bill will be sent to the full House and Senate or be effectively put on hold for another year.
