Convention of States is launching the Legislative Action Coalition. In order to remain free, it is necessary to be forever watchful upon the walls of our defense and keep a lookout for any breach in those walls. One key area to watch is the state legislature. Our elected officials were hired by the people and are responsible to the people. Our responsibility therefore is to let them know our wishes on issues that affect us.

In order to speak to our senators and representatives with some understanding, we must have some knowledge of the specific legislation that crosses their desks. Armed with this information, we are more capable to speak with them on these issues, and to know in advance of any dangers lurking within the shadowy corners of Austin (of course, that could never happen, but just in case…).

This will tend to be a rather large undertaking and will require detail-minded individuals who are able to understand “all that legal jargon” and then explain it in layman's terms.

The coalition has several plans to accomplish this including:

Building relationships with state legislators and educating them about Convention of States and the legislative priorities that identify COS members as conservative and American in their thinking.

Close monitoring of the progress of COS-supported Senate and House bills, joint resolutions, and concurrent resolutions as they move through the two branches of the legislature.

Monitoring and grading the performance of legislators, as well as leading the strategic planning process with other COS coalitions in order to develop new resolutions as the need arises.

This effort will be composed of grassroots activists within the ranks of COS who are concerned with the progress (or lack thereof) within the state government on issues such as the border invasion, abortion, gun legislation, school choice, and the safety and security of children from harmful curriculum in the schools and gender-changing medical procedures. Another key goal will be to encourage legislation to eliminate the sunset clause on the COS Resolution.

All of these goals will require not only legal-minded individuals, but also those who excel in personal relationships. It is very hard to get anyone, including legislators, interested in what one has to say until they respect that individual.

If you are a member of COS and are interested in becoming active in the fight to save Texas and America, consider joining as a Volunteer Activist in the Legislative Action Coalition. We cannot have too many boots on the ground.

Convention of States is a grassroots organization whose purpose is to constitutionally bring the power back to the people and states respectively by limiting the power of the federal government. Based upon our Founders' Article V in the Constitution, our purpose is to call a Convention of States, relying on historical precedence, where the states will propose and adopt amendments to the Constitution that will require federal term limits and fiscal responsibility, and limit federal overreach.
