There are some exciting things happening among our states. If you've been watching the news or following social media in the slightest, you have seen that as many as nine states have passed or will soon sign “heartbeat bills” into law, and it has been surmised that this is a direct challenge to SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Those states that have signed restrictions on abortion into law, with a brief glance at the COS map, are basically part of the 15 states that have already passed the Convention of States resolution!
Why is this exciting? Momentum. States are reclaiming power for their people, and what their people actually want is gaining momentum.
However, the Convention of States resolution is not just gaining momentum in the south. States with "Active Legislation in 2019" include the most liberal among us such as New York, Massachusetts, Oregon, Minnesota, Illinois, Hawaii, Maryland, and New Jersey. New Mexico, also a traditionally blue state, has already passed the Convention of States resolution in one chamber, and Virginia, a blue leaning state, has done so as well.
So, how do you keep the momentum going and get more states to pass the Convention of States resolution? There are two ways: join the Convention of States yourself and Run for Something.
Scroll to the bottom of this article and sign up today for the Convention of States and start helping with the cause. Call your representative and tell them you support COS, and they should too!
Defend COS from attacks in states that have already passed the resolution. I'm looking at you, Alabama. Volunteer with the COS team to reach other people with the ideals and values that you want to see supported through our states that Congress will never have the stones to take on.
Then, run for office yourself. We will need good people like you in our state legislatures writing amendments, fighting for what is moral and good, holding Congress accountable, balancing the ever-inflating budget, and protecting our borders.
Amanda Litman's book //Run for Something// is wildly progressive, but it is still profoundly helpful and inspiring if you, like myself, are thinking of running for office and don't have a clue where to start. So, give it a read. We will need you.
But first things first. Sign up now to support the Convention of States! We have the momentum. Help us keep it going.
