There are a number of volunteer activities that can contribute to our mission as a passed state to “Build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists”\r\r
This document will help you to know how to conduct one of those activities namely “Influencing your state legislators to support the Convention of States”.\r
\r
The first step is to determine who your legislators are. In Arizona each of thirty legislative districts has one Senator and two Representatives. To find out who they are you need to know what district you are in. To find your district and/or to determine who your legislators are use the following link Find my legislator.\r
\r
Having done that the next step is to decide how to contact them. Their office can be reached by phone, by email, sometimes by text, and always by regular mail. The most powerful way to influence them is by handwritten letter. They seldom receive handwritten letters and therefore they pay attention to them knowing that one of their constituents took the time to do so

Volunteer Activity Plan
Fellow Patriot,
You have chosen to volunteer in a cause to restore our Federal government to what the
framers of our Constitution intended using Article V of that constitution, a protection
provided by the framers to check a government that has moved beyond its limited and
enumerated powers. You can play a most important part in this effort as a volunteer to
help us get the job done.
There are a number of volunteer activities that can contribute to our mission as a passed
state to “Build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists”
This document will help you to know how to conduct one of those activities namely
“Influencing your state legislators to support the Convention of States”.
The first step is to determine who your legislators are. In Arizona each of thirty
legislative districts has one Senator and two Representatives. To find out who they are
you need to know what district you are in. To find your district and/or to determine who
your legislators are use the following link Find my legislator.
Having done that the next step is to decide how to contact them. Their office can be
reached by phone, by email, sometimes by text, and always by regular mail. The most
powerful way to influence them is by handwritten letter. They seldom receive
handwritten letters and therefore they pay attention to them knowing that one of their
constituents took the time to do so.
Next decide what you want to communicate to them. Possibilities are:
1. Please support the Convention of States project. As a passed state, the legislature has
already approved our resolution but it is possible that one or more legislators in the future
might introduce legislation to repeal Arizona’s approval of the resolution.
2. Ask them to reject certain bills that are contrary to liberty. (There is another Volunteer
Activity Plan titled “Legislative Activism” that deals with this activity in more detail)
3. Thank them for their support (if they supported it) of the Convention of States
resolution that was approved in 2017. (see an example in the appendix)
4. Ask to meet with them or ask when and where they will be doing a public Town Hall
meeting so you can attend and ask questions or share you opinion.
If you phone your legislators office you will likely be answered by a member of their
staff. The staff person will ask your for your name and address and phone number. You
can ask them to convey your message to the legislator or if you would like to speak to

them you can indicate the topic and provide the best times to contact you. Depending on
the legislator and their workload they may respond so be prepared to briefly and politely
share your message or concern.
It is important to let someone in the Arizona Convention of States leadership know that
you have done any of these things and to pass on anything that you learn about your
legislator's position on specific legislation or the Convention of States in general. You
can find the email address and phone number of the Arizona State Director on the
Convention of States web page by scrolling down to the section titled “WHO'S
BEHIND THIS THING” and click on State Leadership. That will display the contact
information for the State Director. Call or email that person and tell them about what you
did.
Appendix
Dear [State Legislator],
Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The
unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a
recipe for disaster.
I am proud that my state legislature has done its part to implement the process our
Founders gave us in Article V of the U.S. Constitution to allow the states to act as a final
check on Washington, D.C., by proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. I
support the approach led by Citizens For Self-Governance’s Convention or States Project,
of calling an Article V Convention to propose only amendments that would impose fiscal
restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term
limits on its officials.
If you were one of the legislators who helped to pass this resolution in our state, thank
you. If not, please visit the Convention of States web page to learn more about Article V
and the Convention of States Project.
Going forward, I ask that you continue to study the momentous problems we face as a
nation and that you begin to consider and explore various amendments that our state
might propose at an Article V Convention. I also ask for your support at the ratification
stage of the process when you may have the opportunity to vote on amendments that will
restore meaningful limitations on the federal government.
Thank you for your service to the people of our district.
