It is amazing the number of speed readers we have in the U.S. House of Representatives.
With more than 2700 pages, the House passed an earmark-heavy spending bill less than 24 hours of it being printed. That is more impressive than Black Friday swing though Walmart!
How can these elected officials sign onto this bill and smile. With over 4000 pork filled pet projects, every member of Congress slipped their hand into our wallets. The votes show that many Republicans crossed the aisle to vote for the monster, but they will say is was to get relief money to Ukraine. If that’s the case, they should have submitted a standalone bill to do just that.
If there can be a winner, it is Chuck Schumer. Schumer’s name is attached to 59 earmarks totaling nearly $80 million in the omnibus’s transportation and housing and urban development (HUD) section alone, according to a review by The Hill. He successfully requested funding for the projects either individually or with other lawmakers from his home state.
Some of the other gems included in this pork fest are:
- $13.6B for aid to Ukraine
- $20B for Climate Resiliency Programs
- $1.45B for Southern Border Response
- None was for security. This is to help with housing and processing 0f illegals
- $17.2 B child care
- $726B defense
- $9.7B for 4,000 pet projects including:
- $500K lobster pots in Maine
- $600k greenhouses in NYC
- $1.6M equitable growth of shellfish in RI
A disgusting display of the need for fiscal constraints on Congress, which is one of the goals of Convention of States and why you need to sign our petition and volunteer to help. Join us as we try to save this great country’
