Letters To Legislators Overview and Instructions
Many of our legislators are barely, if at all, familiar with Article V and with the
Convention of States project. As individual citizens, we can have a great effect on
changing that, if enough COS supporters will regularly communicate with their
local assembly members and state senators.
Of great value is a continuous and consistent flow of communication. Legislators
get lots of communication on many issues. We need to stand out and
communicate in volume to get their attention.
A commitment on your part to create and deliver these communications monthly
will prove invaluable to the project, OR just writing one letter or an occasional
letter when you have a moment, would be much better than nothing.
Combined with other awareness-increasing activities (including visits by groups
to legislators’ offices and visits to the Capitol), the impact can be huge.
Instructions:
Letters to Legislators (assemble your own letter system)
The below components are meant to assist you in assembling a letter to send to
your legislator (like building your own hamburger with only the ingredients you
like) or in this case that take into account: where you reside, your previous
interaction(s) with the legislator (or none if that applies), your knowledge of
convention of states, your specific interests in wanting certain issues addressed
(like federal spending, term limits, etc..), or just a general overall interest in
wanting to do something to influence our representatives into supporting an
Article V Convention of States to doing something about the out of control federal
government.
Please take a paragraph from each of the 3 different areas (salutation, main
content, closing remarks) and thoughtfully assemble them into what feels
GENUINE to YOU.
NOTE: This is a suggestive writing aid/system meant to spur thought/action. If
you have your own words or content please feel free to write the letter from that.
Whatever you do DO NOT just grab paragraphs that don’t fit together or don’t
make sense from your perspective. Always be willing to interject your own
wording to personalize the content.
One of things we strongly encourage is for you to visit conventionofstates.com \\
and type into the search box at the top of the page the issue you would most like
to write your legislator about IE: “limit federal spending” or “term limits” or
“government overreach” or just a explanation of Convention Of States IE: “article
v explanation,” try it yourself, just go to conventionofstates.com type those terms
into the search box and click enter.
Click on the search magnifying glass
It will open this search box

Main Content:
1. From what I understand it would limit the size and reach of the federal
government into state’s affairs and I think the federal government is out of
control and needs to be reigned in.
2. I would like you to consider supporting an article v convention of states.
3. One of the goals of Convention of States is to limit federal spending and I
think it’s long past time for this to happen.
4. Convention of States is for term limits and that would solve a lot of problems
right there (it would curtail lobbyists influence for one thing).
5. An Article 5 Convention of States sounds like it would stop the federal
government from overreaching into states’ business which I am all for. Our
president is out of control and needs to be held accountable.
6. The Convention of States website shows many states have already passed
the resolution and I want California to get on board with this too.
7. If we don’t get our spending under control we are going to lose this country
(current national debt amount here. here is the debt clock url: https:%%//%%\\ www.usdebtclock.org/index.html)
Closing Remarks:
1. Please consider helping to pass a Convention of States.
2. Would you please consider what Convention of States would do for our
community/state and support it?
3. I would like you to support this movement. At least look into it because I
believe it’s worth trying.
4. Here’s the website just in case you need to know more https:%%//%%
5. As my legislator I would like you to consider voting for this.
6. Would you please contact me about your position on this, I would be happy to
discuss it with you.
7. Would you please contact me about what your position is on this? Much
appreciated.
