As Veterans Day approaches, we do well to thank those we know who have worn the uniform. Do the same for those visibly in uniform. My family has done this every time we see such veterans as well as active duty service people any day of the year my whole life. I still carry on that tradition as I am sure they do as well. Maybe you do, too. This Veterans Day, while it may be a day off for many, we would do well to help them by preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution of the USA from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Here in Georgia, we accomplished this 10.5 years ago by passing the Convention of States Resolution.
Our veterans are those who made it back from active duty in diverse states of mind and position. A lot of them come back fairly whole. But so many come back with maladies from losing limbs to losing minds. If not worse. This goes all the way back to the foundations of the American republic. Washington’s men had to go without food…or shoes. In the snow-covered Valley Forge. Worse things have happened to those who we don’t even know what happened. So it baffles me that there are those from the citizenry to elected state legislators who are afraid of using a safe, constitutional process. This, we agree, fundamentally disgraces all those who have gone through so much worse to preserve our liberty as laid out in the Constitution. If they were willing to face horrific risks compared to us, for God’s love, we can hold a constitutional discussion on what to amend into one of our founding documents.
We still hold the line in Georgia, being the first state back in 2014 to pass our resolution and expand on self-governance. From school choice to CON (Certificate of Need), we are able to make our voices heard in addition to contacting our state legislators, forging relationships with them, and becoming more familiar with the workings of state politics that are often overshadowed compared to the workings in the federal government in Washington, D.C. This is what our veterans are preserving at home and abroad. The least I can do to thank them and all those in my family, is pushing for Article V to be invoked.
