Being a numbers guy, I love Article V of the U.S. Constitution. It’s short and to the point. It describes the two ways of proposing amendments to the Constitution. The first is by Congress (the usual way), and then there is the extraordinary way–a Convention of States.

This is a simple flowchart type graphic that I created of this simple process. I’m a programmer, so flowcharts are what I do.

The particulars are that it takes 34 states to call a convention, the states pass a proposal at convention by a majority vote, and the proposals that are passed in convention go to the states (either legislature or ratifying conventions) to be ratified or not.

If 38 (three-fourths) of the states ratify any one proposal it becomes an amendment, the law of the land.
