Free Pizza, Anyone?
Convention of States Alaska State Director Keith Heim has been educating his state about COS, one pizza at a time at Guido's Pizza on International Airport Road in Anchorage.
Keith sends a monthly e-blast to everyone in the state, inviting them for a meal on him. He has gotten anywhere from eight to 15 people to attend every month.
Keith does a PowerPoint presentation and gives a 25-30 minute talk, letting people know what COS is, where Alaska is going, and why we need to grow. He ends each meeting with a time for questions.
Alaska was the second state to pass the COS resolution in 2014, but only two legislators who voted are still in the legislature today. Keith has made it his aim to contact all the new legislators to be sure they know about and support the passed legislation. He has even invited them for pizza, too.
With the Coronavirus restrictions, Keith has had to put the monthly pizza meetings on hold until further notice, but he'll be sending an email out soon about doing an online meeting until he can get back to gathering in person.
With a state the size of Alaska and the relatively small population, people are spread far and wide. Keith's next step is to hold a state webinar to reach those outside the Anchorage area. There won't be free pizza, but he'll serve up a feast of information on COS that will make everyone hungry to know more.
Be looking for an e-blast on that soon!
