Convention of States (COS) Action New Jersey has exciting news. We moved forward on a significant milestone by signing on our first Democrat as a co-sponsor to SCR45 (NJ Senate COS Resolution).
On June 3, Chris Garzino (State Director), Tara Fleming (Regional Captain Central East), Fuad Abdelaziz (District 11 Captain), and Bill Smith (District 11 Captain) met with Senator Vin Gopal (District 11) to talk about Convention of States.
They had a great conversation and the Senator made it clear he was interested in COS. When he joined as a co-sponsor, he shared: “I signed onto SCR45 as a co-sponsor because addressing our soaring national debt is an important issue for us to discuss. National debt has gone up from Presidents of both parties, and by having a serious conversation and convention on this will help our future generations not be straddled in debt.”
COS Action is a non-partisan organization of volunteers that believe calling a Convention of States will help save our country. We need 34 states to call a convention. To date, nineteen states have passed the COS Resolution. The COS Resolution in each state must match in scope. The COS Resolution includes three areas: term limits on federal officials, fiscal restraints, and reducing federal overreach.
In addition to meeting with our state legislators and encouraging them to support the COS Resolution, there are two other areas important to COS Action.
- Building a grassroots army of volunteers.
- Educating volunteers so they can explain COS as they recruit new volunteers and talk to their legislators.
Thank you Senator Gopal for having the vision and courage to be our first Democrat co-sponsor.
Momentum is growing for obtaining additional Republican, Independent, and Democrat supporters and co-sponsors for COS Action, both through volunteers and legislators.
We are always looking for petition signers and volunteers for COS. Please join us. You will never regret it.
