Tis the season for interviewing candidates and meeting them at
various end of year parties and fundraisers. REMEMBER, this is a
job interview. Once hired you will be a great employer and help with
goal setting, will hold mid year reviews and end of year reviews. Here
are my tips:
•
AT THE END OF YOUR CONVERSATION: A list of COS
statistics (#supporters, #petition signers, #volunteers in US/
Texas/SD/HD)
•
AT THE END OF YOUR CONVERSATION: A list of COS
endorsers (US/TX/SD/HD). The more local, the better…think
SRECs/SDECs, county chairs, delegates, elected officials, etc)
•
AT THE END OF YOUR CONVERSATION: COS materials
•
AT THE END OF YOUR CONVERSATION: Ask if he/she
will support/endorse COS and removal of the sunset clause.
(Let @michael.deffendall know the answer)
If he/she identifies as a Republican:
•
print out of the RPT priorities: https://texasgop.org/priorities/
•
87th legislative session assessment https:%%//%%rptsrec.com/
Jillintro.htm (ask him/her what he/she would do better)
•
Texas House Caucus speaker commitment: https:%%//%%
texasgop.org/tx-house-caucus-speaker-commitment/ (ask if they
will sign?)
•
This is why we have a speaker (Phelan) that did not pass
liberty bills
•
Texans for Fiscal Responsibility: https:%%//%%
index.texastaxpayers.com/legislative-sessions (What would they
do better?)
Ideas for questions to ask:
•
What do you want to be your most important accomplishment?
•
What will be your priorities going into the next session?
•
Are you aware of the Legislative Priorities of the Party of Texas
that you represent? (Print a list and go thru your favorite topics)
•
Do you know which bills you want to submit?
•
What issues do you get the most phone calls and emails about?
What is your response?
•
How will you help further the party priorities?
•
Have you met with the SECs?
•
Who are the lobbyists that are wooing you? Ask about their top
donors and their interests.
•
Will you commit to working publicly to advance the party
priorities next session? (Or those placed on the call for a special
session?)
•
How can your constituents help you in the next session?
•
Have you been a delegate or guest at the party state
convention? Have you testified before the convention’s platform
or legislative priorities committee?
•
Why did you choose this particular party?
