You’d have to live under a rock for a few decades not to have noticed that our “benevolent” Federal government has reached too far into our lives and businesses. Yet, as I watch the events unfolding before my eyes, I am mystified by how the insanity has gotten this far. The framers of the Constitution put intentional “speed bumps” in place to limit the creation of laws. Unfortunately, they didn’t anticipate the extensive use of Executive Orders (EOs), the tool most often used by US presidents who dislike dealing with Congress. According to the Federal Register,  Clinton, GW Bush, and Obama, all 2-term presidents, issued a total of 830 EOs for an average of 276 per administration. During his 4-year term, President Trump issued 220, and arguably many of those EOs were issued to reverse previous EOs. For all intents and purposes, the use of Executive Order is akin to rule by fiat and is often challenged in court by affected parties. You may conclude that EOs pose a significant legal problem if they are issued indiscriminately by a sitting President. While that may be true, I would assert there is a more serious overreach, and that is the entrenched bureaucracy. This would apply to the many Federal alphabet offices such as the FTC, SEC, EPA, FDA, etc., authorities, commissions, review boards, regulators, inspectors, agents, and, I might add, the parasitic lobbyists so pervasive in Washington, D.C. Jan Jekielek (Yahn Yeh-kell-ick) of The Epoch Times’ American Thought Leaders (I love that show and highly recommend it) interviewed Mark Chenoweth, President and Chief Counsel for the New Civil Liberties Alliance. Mentioned in the interview was a recent Supreme Court ruling, West Virginia vs. EPA (decided June 30, 2022) that became a “Major Questions Doctrine” issue during oral arguments. You can read through a summary of that issue and its implications here. (As a side note, I encourage you to download a copy of this ruling to better prepare for arguing your logic in supporting COSA.) In the verbiage contained in the SCOTUS ruling, Chief Justice Roberts cited, among other reasons, that this lawsuit was a “major questions” case due to the following: - Involving a “transformative expansion” of the EPA’s regulatory authority - It affected “many vital considerations of national policy” - It involved subjects outside the EPA’s traditional realm of expertise In their ruling concurrence, Justices Gorsuch and Alito itemized at least three triggers that would define a “Major Questions” case: * When an agency seeks to “resolve a matter of ‘great political significance’” or a matter of “profound debate across the country.” * When an agency’s decision may affect “a significant portion of the American economy” or require “billions of dollars in spending.” * When an agency imposes on areas that are “the particular domain of state law.” This particular case precipitated, thankfully, the introduction by the US Supreme Court of the “Major Questions Doctrine” that now allows businesses and citizens to challenge the powers of various federal authorities. Now, I’m no lawyer, but it strikes me that the “Major Questions Doctrine” may be a guiding principle in how we frame our Constitutional amendment pertaining to limiting federal bureaucratic overreach. So, I ask you, dear reader, to formulate how a proposed amendment limiting federal overreach will be worded. Unlike the two other proposed amendments- term limits and a balanced budget- I assert that it would need to be very specific and detailed. Would the Major Questions Doctrine suffice as a viable foundation? I suppose only lawyers will be able to answer that question, but they will need our input at the Convention of States. Our adversaries are watching the United States become a roaring, chaotic and tribal mess. They’ve already started celebrating the imminent demise of our home. Those who’ve suffered under tyranny are watching, with deepening fear, our nation falter. Where will they go when/if they can escape their shackles? Our home, our country, the United States of America, is the world’s crown jewel of a democratic republic. Suppose the forces arrayed against it - the PRC, Russia, Antifa, BLM, George Soros, the World Economic Forum, the climate change cult, socialists/communists, the demons of power, Justin Trudeau - manage to bring this country down. In that case, there will be no end to the tyrannical dynasty and the suffering of all life on this planet. Our home must not be fragmented into tiny, isolated islands of logic and reason that are surrounded by the stagnant sea of ignorance and deception. **** **American Supremacy** By Joseph Sheeley Listening to speeches by President Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and other politicians and political commentators, the spector of “white supremacy” is often mentioned. They propose that “white supremacists are the biggest threat to our democracy today.” This brings visions of gangs of Aryan men standing in front of polling places and schools with baseball bats to intimidate non-white voters into staying home. Firebombings of black churches would be an everyday occurrence, with the internet and airwaves filled with calls for race-based segregation. Police in towns across America would patrol the streets and tell non-whites to leave before sunset. But we’re seeing none of these things. Regrettably, these were common practices in America through the early 1960s. But they were left in the 1960s and before. Certainly, some racists still exist, mainly in generations born before the middle of the last century,  but they are marginalized. Anyone who openly expresses such beliefs is chased away from positions of power. This is not the America of the 1950s, and there appears to be little evidence of it reemerging. So, about what are these politicians talking? One explanation is that they’re simply creating a phantom menace to scare citizens into giving them their votes. Politicians have always used exaggerated rhetoric to rile people up and get votes. Racism is a favorite claim as it divides people into “us” and “them,” which is useful in distraction, like the magician who uses the right hand to hide what the left is doing. But here, the claims come from the left, where they see everything through a racial lens. To understand the source of the claims, one must think as those on the left do. There are not just ideas, inventions, and history. There are white and black ideas, Hispanic and East Asian inventions, and Middle-Eastern and American Indian history. It is as if we are divided into teams where everyone is assigned to a skin-based group. Anything that is done by or happens to a member of the team applies to the whole group. If someone in Team A gets a job or graduates with a Ph.D., it is a victory shared by the whole group. If somebody in the group is given something, it is to the benefit of the whole group. For example, because Thomas Edison was categorized as “white,” the light bulb is called a “white invention.”  Likewise, Nicholas Tesla was categorized as “white,” so the provision of power by  both DC (Tesla’s) and AC (Edison’s) current are both considered “white ideas.” The fact that Tesla and Edison were radically different individuals with radically different backgrounds, cultures, and circumstances makes no difference. On the other hand, the traffic light was invented by a person who was categorized as “black,” Garrett Morgan. Therefore, it is considered a “black invention.” So, returning to the claims of white supremacy, the political left isn’t referring to Klan members in white robes declaring the supremacy of the white race. Instead, the ideas on which America was founded, such as: * individual freedom * inalienable rights * innocent until proven guilty * property ownership * free-enterprise * limited government were created by individuals categorized as “white,” these are then seen as “white ideas.” Individuals who believe these ideas are superior to others are seen as “white supremacists” for political convenience. Because about half of the population believes America’s founding principles are superior, about fifty percent of Americans are now “white supremacists.” Indeed, white supremacists are therefore hiding behind every rock, ready to snatch up your baby. Ironically, many of these “white supremacists” are black, Hispanic, Asian, or categorized as other races, but they are “white supremacists” just the same. That this term is prejudicial and considered extremely vile is not seen as an issue, it is a motivation for using the term in this way. The speaker often wants the public to misunderstand the label and assume the individuals being referred to are, in fact, racists who believe the white race is superior and others are inferior. This would be similar to calling people who hunt animals or exterminate insects “killers” in the hope that those who hear the claim will think they kill people. To those who are heavily indoctrinated into the “all is race” culture, the term is accurate, and the misinterpretation is appropriate. Since the individuals labeled believe in the superiority of “white ideas” and therefore are just as vile as those who believe in segregation, oppose interracial marriage, and hold other beliefs promoted by traditional white supremacists. Interestingly, the ideas often being promoted by those using the slander against traditional American ideas, things like socialism and feudalism, were also systems that were developed by individuals categorized as “white.” The latter was even the political and economic system used by most European populations from which many of the American founding fathers came. Feudalism and socialism could certainly be classified as “white systems” under the criteria used to make such claims, but that reality is ignored for political convenience. Many American socialists even hold Scandinavian nations up as shining examples of the kind of society they would like to create in America. Instead, this region is known for blonde hair and low melatonin levels. Yes, the founding fathers and great thinkers around the country’s beginning were white by the current pop-culture definition. The world was very clan-centric at the time, and there was no widespread immigration and mixing of cultures except via conquering tribes who then occupied and intermingled with the conquered population. But what those who believe these claims fail to understand is that the traditional American system is special and unique. Many who have benefited from the system would say it is superior to all other systems ever invented. Certainly, it has been proven to be extremely effective at creating wealth and prosperity for most if not all of the people in the population to the point where those for which it fails can easily be taken care of from the surplus largess generated. So, I am an American supremacist. I believe the system set up by the Founding Fathers is superior to all the other systems ever devised on earth. For example: * Freedom allows everyone to find their passion and contribute as they deem best. * Fairtrade promotes honor and integrity since others have the right to trade with you or not. * Property rights provide the incentive to produce and achieve. * Judicial rights prevent the legal system from being used by tyrants to punish others. * The freedom of speech and the press allows everyone access to information for making decisions and pulls corruption into the light for all to see. * And freedom of religion allows all to make choices where it matters. Today that superior system is being degraded and replaced by socialism and outright corruption, and tyranny. Charges of racism are one of the favorite tools of those who want to divide us and seize power. We cannot let them turn one against another and make people fearful to speak the truth. The Federal Government has become far too powerful and corrupted by those seeking to build wealth from the public. It is time to use another element of that superior system, Article V of the Constitution, to give back power to the people and maintain America as the supreme country in the world.\\   **Convention of States Volunteer with a Deep Patriotic Bloodline**  By Lindi Stebbins My local COSA District Captain, Christine Solomon, asked if I would share some thoughts at our meeting. I’m grateful to be part of the COSA movement to restore freedom from the tyranny of our government. My thoughts strayed back to another generation long ago who fought for their independence from King George of England. That generation included many of my ancestors.  In 1680, my 9th-generation grandfather, Andrew Griscom, a devout Quaker, came to America 2 years before William Penn. William Penn may have sent him before the emigrant party to study the terrain and advise on the new town’s development. Appointing my grandfather as the prime contractor and builder of the new city of Philadelphia indicates that William Penn was aware of his skills and had confidence in him. At that time, the dwellings were dirt-floor log cabins or dug-out caves. Andrew built the first three brick houses with wood plank floors in Philadelphia on South Second Street.   Andrew had two children, Tobias and Sarah. Tobias became a skilled carpenter, and Sarah remained single and spent her life developing intricate and highly specialized sewing skills. Tobias had four children, one of whom was my 7th generation grandfather Andrew Griscom II and his brother Samuel.   Samuel married Rebecca James, and they had 17 children. Unfortunately, only eight survived to adulthood, including a daughter named Elizabeth, nicknamed Betsy. She was born in 1752 on New Year’s Day, the same year Ben Franklin, a neighbor of her Great Aunt Sarah, conducted his famous experiment with electricity. Interestingly, it was exactly 200 years before I was born in 1952. When Betsy was 11 years old, Great Aunt Sarah began teaching Betsy and her cousin sewing skills. Betsy won many contests and competitions in her teenage years with her sewing skills. Her sister Rachael states that Betsy was acquainted with General Washington before May 1776 because he frequently visited her house as a friend and on business. She is said to have embroidered ruffles on the front of his shirts and cuffs. Washington chose Betsy to make the first flag because of his friendship with her. They were also members of Christ Church, where Betsy and her husband, John Ross, rented the pew adjacent to George and Martha. Although Betsy grew up in a Quaker home, she was considered a “Quaker Rebel” because she married outside the Quaker church to John Ross, the son of an Episcopalian minister. She also supported the colonists’ efforts to gain their independence from England. Unfortunately, her first husband died due to a wound while guarding a munitions site, and her second husband, Joseph Ashburn, died as a prisoner of war in an English prison. Her third husband, John Claypoole, was born in Mount Holly, New Jersey, the town I was born in 200 years later. Unfortunately, he was seriously wounded and disabled in the war. Nevertheless, their generation paid dearly for their involvement in the fight for freedom. Some years later, the Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia from May through September 17, 1787. Nine states ratified it by July 2, 1788. Elections followed, and our nation’s first president, George Washington, was inaugurated on April 30, 1789, in New York City, the temporary capital. The day was designated as a day of prayer and dedication. This was the proclamation that went forth: //“On the morning of the day on which our illustrious President will be invested with his office, the bells will ring at nine o’clock, when the people may go up to the house of God and in a solemn manner commit the new government, with its important train of consequences, to the holy protection and blessing of the Most High. An early hour is prudently fixed for this peculiar act of devotion and is designated wholly for prayer.”// So, on that morning, April 30, 1789, the sounds of bells filled the nation’s capital for 30 minutes, calling the people to go up to the house of God to commit the new government to the holy protection and blessing of the Most High. In our first-ever presidential address, this is what Washington said:  //“No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.”// And he continued:  //“It would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the councils of nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that His benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the people of the United States a Government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes.”// As for the nation’s first president and government, it would be later that same day that they would gather for prayer to commit the future into God’s hands at a place specially chosen for that purpose—a little stone church called Saint Paul’s Chapel. So, after the new President delivered the first presidential address, he would lead the Senate and the House of Representatives on foot in a procession through the streets of the capital from Federal Hall, the site of the inauguration, to the place appointed for their prayers.  Interestingly, St. Paul’s Chapel still stands today at the location of Ground Zero and became the command center for locating missing people after the 9-11 attack. So we are a nation that has been dedicated to God. As we work toward calling a convention to keep the freedoms our ancestors gave their lives for, I’m reminded of a verse in scripture:  //“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sins, and heal their land.”—2 Chronicles 7:14// America doesn’t need the masses of people to bring about a return to our Christian roots. God, united with His people, is always a majority. **** **What Have I Done, Just Because…** By Jim MacDonald My career affords me plenty of windshield time; therefore, the radio is regularly tuned into conservative talk radio. Unfortunately, seeing the direction our country has been taking for some time has become very disturbing. My cynical side seems to ask, ok, what’s next?\\ \\ If you take a birds-eye view of the progression of our nation faces, what you see is this: * Farmland being purchased by China and Bill Gates, or the government paying farmers NOT to produce any crop * An all-out attack on cattle by either unforeseen illnesses or environmentalist attacking their flatulence * A hundred thousand chickens killed in a fire in Connecticut * Food processing plants burning down or planes flying into them just out of the blue * A forty-car train in Canada full of fertilizer derails, dumping all the product * A train derailed in Ohio, leaving harmful chemicals in our air, water, and land. * Millions of illegal aliens are entering our southern border * Crime rates are increasing across the nation * Overdose deaths from drug use increasing * Suicide rates increasing * Incompetency matched with corruption in Washington, D.C. * Detestable national debt from government printing and spending * Inflation and fuel shortages caused by government regulation and spending * Teaching children to be racist through CRT * Marxism creating division in every aspect of our nation * Mutilation of our children * Distorting or erasing American history * Attacking or ignoring our U.S. Constitution * Biden’s poor foreign policy on the brink of starting WWIII * And this list could go on and on… Never in American history have the people of this great country had so much conflict weighing down on their minds. It’s scary how bad it is, especially when you list it all together—no wonder anxiety is so extreme. I have a high tolerance level for this, but I get tired of hearing the constant negative bombarding of my mind that I must turn all the noise off while driving to give my mind a break. **So, What is the Solution?** There are several solutions, but I’ll list two of the most important ones for this article: First, we must pray and seek God’s face. //If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.//—2 Chronicles 7: 14 We are in a serious battle for the minds and souls of the people in America. This is not a battle we can fight with swords and guns. It is a spiritual battle against pure evil. //For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.//—Ephesians 6: 12 We need God’s people on their knees praying as if our life depended on it because it really does. If we are to leave our children and grandchildren with a free nation, we have work to do. But, it begins on our knees. The second thing we must do is pass the Convention of States resolution in fifteen more states and call the convention to propose amendments to: * Impose fiscal restraints on the federal government * Limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government * Place term limits on Congress and federal officials The federal government will never fix itself and give the people and the states back the power they usurped. It is up to the people to use Article V of the Constitution that our Founders, through the inspiration of God, gave us. In particular, the second clause of Article V which reads: //…Or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States…// This second clause was written in Article V two days before the signing of the Constitution, with no rebuttal from any of the Founders. George Mason knew the federal government would usurp power from the people and the states, in which the states had no recourse to recover the power once it was gone. To date, this clause has never been used.  **Conclusion** I was inspired to write this article from a recent prayer session. In my prayer, I was petitioning God to heal our land. Through my prayer, I was calling out some of the items listed above and knowing there was no way we could fix these problems ourselves. We must have His intervention. While getting ready for work the following day, I continued my prayer. With God knowing my heart is to do whatever He has called me to do, I asked God: With things in our nation as bad as they are, should I be focusing less on Convention of States and more on the spiritual needs of His people? The words that vividly came to me were: “What have I done, just because?” Since I believe God inspired the adjustment to Article V of the Constitution to save the Constitution, I must continue working hard to achieve the Convention of States Action mission. I believe God inspired the additional clause for such a time as this. Because God doesn’t do anything, just because. \\ **** **An Easter Message** By Jim MacDonald As wiser (older) Americans, we have the luxury of reminiscing on many of the nostalgic moments of our lives. Some of my favorites were: roller-skating, drive-in movies, riding bicycles (without a helmet), disco-dancing, going to the ice cream parlor, and staying outside till the street lights came on. Life seemed so simple then—not to downplay the tough times like the Vietnam War, huge gas lines, inflation, unemployment, union strikes, etc. Today, however, there appears to be one issue after another with no break between conflicts—as if they continue to pile on each other, with an extreme level of pure evil.   Now the never-ending 24-hour news cycle of TV, radio, and internet leads to the overwhelming stress level Americans experience. Back in the day, we had the 6:00 pm evening news, and if we were really news junkies that day, we’d watch the 11:00 pm news before the Tonight Show. Aside from that, life just went on. Today, our world is coming apart at the seams. We can’t tell the difference between a man and a woman. Or how to describe what a woman is—or what bathroom to use. Our schools are teaching children to be racist and transvestites. Our political leaders believe they can print and spend trillions of dollars, and it will reduce our debt. Abortion is a woman’s right (but then, who is a woman)? We live in a lost world where we’ve rejected God as a nation. //Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.//—Romans 1:28 It’s so important today that we fast and pray for America like never before. This nation has become so corrupt that only a God as big as ours can fix it. There is no use in stressing over something we can’t fix. Lay your anxiety at the foot of the cross and pray for revival. //I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.//—John 16: 33 Over two thousand years ago, Jesus sacrificed His life on the cross for us to have peace. Our biggest responsibility is to pray for our country and pray for our people to know Christ. Read the Bible and become Righteous, right with God. God’s will for our nation will prevail. We need only to submit to His will for our lives. //But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.//—Matthew 6:33 As we walk through the challenges the next couple of years will bring, let’s remember Jesus is the reason for the season. Study your Bible, pray for our country, and seek God’s face. Jesus allowed Himself to be hung on the cross because He loves us so much. To Him, we are the reason for the season.  **Tennessee on the Move...** Maryville Biblical Citizenship Class Block Walking Patriots from Estill Springs Block Walking Patriots from Maryville Block Walking Patriots from Powell Patriots from Dayton, District 31 Patriots from Decatur Patriots from District 33 Patriots from Gallatin Patriots from Hixson Patriots from McMinnville Patriots from Murfreesboro Patriots from Powell Patriots from Sevierville Patriots from Shelbyville Patriots from Tullahoma **Upcoming Meetings and Events** **Dayton, TN.** Thursday, April 13th, 2023, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Monkey Town Brewery 287 1st Ave., Dayton TN. 37321 - Jay Walling\\ \\ **Decatur, TN.** Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. at the Decatur Family diner 17315 SR-58, Decatur, TN. 37322 - Meet & Greet - Jay Walling \\ \\ **Hixson, TN.** Thursday, April 27th, 2023, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Rib & Loin Restaurant, 5435 Hwy 153, Hixson, TN. 37343 Meet and Greet - Jay Walling \\ \\ **Jamestown, TN.** Saturday, April 8, 2023, from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. - Larry Wilke\\ \\ **Loudon, TN.** 1st Wednesday of every month at the Chota Rec Center 145 Awohili Dr., Loudon, TN 37774, Room D from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. - Call Terri Hult for more information: 865-304-6997 \\ \\ **McMinnville, TN.** Saturday, April 8, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Magness Library COS Meeting, 118 W.
