(Note – that was sarcasm.) On one corner of our fundraising table, we had a pop-up Convention of States petition signing display. This small act resulted in three new petition signers. \\ \\ Now you may be thinking, what impact will three new petition signers have when we have a state goal of reaching 55,000 signed petitions by the end of 2023? My answer is that every effort is part of the greater whole. While there will be more oohs and aahs uttered in response to the larger events that yield upwards of 25 petition signers (my random number), the reality is that every single petition has equal importance to meeting our goal. \\ \\ Here are some ideas you can use for incrementally increasing the number of petition signers in New Jersey:\\ \\ Are you planning on selling items at a flea market? Put out a clipboard with petitions on it and be ready to answer anyone’s questions about COS.\\ \\ Do your kids want to set up a lemonade stand in front of your house? Be their store manager, wear your COS gear and have some petitions at the ready. Kids are a great draw anyway, and what an easy way to incorporate some civic education into their endeavor.\\ \\ Wear your COS button when running errands, and have a supply of COS business cards in your possession in case anyone initiates a conversation.\\ \\ If any of the businesses you patronize have a public bulletin board, ask if you can post a COS flyer with information on local meetings, a QR code for signing the petition, the website address, etc.\\ \\ Park your car at your local public park on a nice sunny Saturday morning, and sit beside it with a lawn chair, a COS sign and a supply of petitions. \\ \\ The above are just some small steps that can be taken by anyone to further our efforts in New Jersey. With everyone working towards our goal, we can all have an impact.
