Danielle discovered a backroom deal embedded in an emergency Bill HB2839 that passed on a bipartisan basis and was signed in 6 hours before any public comment could influence the content of the bill or the voting outcome. Unbelievably, the bill changed the way Precinct Captains are selected, making the position an appointment made by the Legislative District Chairperson and the County Supervisor rather than an elected position. This is nasty power-grabbing at its "swampiest". Fortunately, Judge John Napper in Yavapai county ruled this section of the bill violated the Arizona Constitution.\\ \\ It is likely that this sort of political attack on the grassroots (the Precinct Captains) will happen again and is happening in other states. This is a reminder that the Convention of States grassroots army in passed states as well as states still working on passing the resolution needs all hands on deck paying attention to what the politicians are doing at every level of government: local, state and federal. To those who ask "What can I do?", I say, get involved! Don't wait for someone else to do it for you. Get out of your comfort zone, just do it. Make your voice heard. Learn how local and state government works. Organize your neighbors; bring them on the team. Make sure the people filling positions in all levels of government are doing the People's business, not just scheming to take power for themselves.
