The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee voted today to send this measure on to the Senate for consideration. A corresponding bill, House Bill 2476 is in the House Fed & State Committee. These identical bills prohibit Congress from designating Kansas land as a National Heritage Area or National Historic Trail without the consent of the Kansas Legislature.  These bills do not stop federal overreach but do provide a check on the federal government, acting through the National Park Service, to create another federal jurisdiction without local approval.  Senator Jeff Longbine remarked that a number of people in his district wanted to see this measure go forward. That means your grassroots action hit the target. Thank you Kansas!
