The bombing of the USS Cole in 2000 and the response that followed led Dana to keep her attention trained on American politics thereafter. Fast-forward to 2020. Feeling frustrated with social media and alienated from many of her peers when sharing her knowledge and experience, Dana sought a way to channel her energies and desire to help reorient her native country from its poor direction. {{https://content.conventionofstates.com/cosaction-prod/public/content/images/30787/30787_original.png?340x340}}Dana comes to COS after having served her local community as a Fire Safety Inspector in one of the state’s largest counties for seven years. A previously undiagnosed illness left her unable to continue in that capacity. Prior to her work as an inspector, she worked in various private sectors, including non-profit-healthcare, maritime, engineering, land development, and language arts industries. Her past professional roles include retail and corporate customer service, office administration, quality assurance auditing, and ESOL/TOEFL instruction.  Her time immersed in local government work raised Dana’s awareness of the general operations from their lowest to highest levels. Although she knew of the occasional newsworthy scandals in her local government, she did not expect to find as much inconsistency and mismanagement as she did.                                         Furthermore, it became apparent that eliminating bad apples and questionable practices from an otherwise excellent local government and work-community would prove to be nearly impossible due to the intervention of status-quo union defense mechanisms and general acceptance and enabling.  That difficult truth served as the primary indicator that government must be kept as small and limited as possible. It seemed only too appropriate to conflate the observed flaws in local operations with the reported trends in state and federal tiers as well. When she isn’t reading about the state of national and world affairs, Dana enjoys writing and playing music, attending concerts, wandering through nature and towns alike, and is an avid photographer. She currently resides in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. Join us and make a difference. #|LEADER_POSITION_FORM{leader_position:state_content_writer}|#
