The Convention of States organization is built upon the principle of self-governance. Our Constitutional Republic relies on personal civic participation.\\ \\ As John Quincy Adams once stated, “Duty is ours; results are God’s.” Our duty is not merely to “do something.” It is to do something effective in the furtherance of liberty.\\ \\ The furtherance of liberty could be the very definition of meaningful results.\\ \\ While building support for an Article V convention of states is our founding action point, it emanates from a conviction toward active representative government, which should begin at the local level. The government of our community is the citizen’s first concern and cause of action, followed by participation in directing the government of our state. \\ \\ In our constitutional, representative Republic, Congress was designed to be subservient to the will of the individual and states. The function of our federal government was meant to promote unity and protection of the states, which in turn should provide an environment promoting life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.\\ \\ This being said, through the cooperation and community of citizen volunteers (groups like COS), the function of our local and state governments can be influenced for optimum flourishing.\\ \\ Through these organizations we can affect governance as watchdogs and citizen activists in our communities, notifying our neighbors of pending legislation and helping to shape the discourse in our legislature.\\ \\ These actions are vital as a force for good government. There are several citizen action groups throughout our nation.
