If their reason for existence is the fight against Communism/Socialism, there seems to be far more fertile ground to plow than a relentless attack on an admittedly Constitutional process with totally conservative objectives.\\ \\ It is puzzling that the grassroots of the John Birch Society, (assuming that there really IS a grassroots) is willing to make their small donations to the organization with most of those donations ending up not fighting Communism/Socialism, but fighting against a Constitutional process clearly defined in Article V.\\ \\ If Constitutional Amendments are so bad, where might we be today without the Bill of Rights (Amendments 1-10).  Could we expect the congress assembled today to propose a similar Bill of Rights by a 2/3 majority?  I do believe if I were a JBS contributor I would prefer my donations be used to fight the much larger and obvious fight, rather than fight against like-minded conservatives.\\ \\ This has indeed been a “noggin scratcher” for me, but sometimes we experience an epiphany.\\ \\ The John Birch Society was essentially discredited and “dead” by the 1980’s.  In fact, I was surprised to find them still around when I became involved with the Convention of States movement.  I remembered the rabid anti-communists from my youth and the jokes that would be directed their way.  John Denver famously sang of the group “…If your mommy is a commie, then you’d better turn her in…” They became irrelevant by their extreme rhetoric and inability to effectively debate.  RIP JBS.\\ \\ But something has risen from the ashes.  How and why?\\ \\ How does a defunct corporation revive? By receiving a large cash infusion!  How many rank-and-file JBS grassroots volunteers and contributors do you personally know?  Certainly not enough to fund the relentless speaking tours and paid speakers that are being trotted out across the country. This stuff ain”t cheap!\\ \\ Why would an “investor” provide a cash infusion to a defunct corporation?  To gain operational control of the entity and any “assets” that the corporation might retain.  Such assets usually include a name brand, a customer list, and intellectual property, even if there are no hard assets.  That is called a “takeover” in the corporate world.\\ \\ Why “take over” an irrelevant, defunct, extreme right-wing political entity?  Ding, Ding, Ding - Epiphany!\\ \\ The brand is convenient because it is an unassailable right-wing brand.  The membership list is tired, but it is a start.  The intellectual property is whatever is left of their old “commie” pamphlets.  They added a new product line.  They have trotted out a collection of tired and worn-out myths (invented by the left, incidentally) opposing an Article V Convention.  Lights, camera, Action!\\ \\ I do not have the bank records to prove anything, but someone on the left with tons of money to burn, who wants to bring down COS from the right and leave no fingerprints just might find this to be a humdinger of an idea.  \\ \\ Connect the dots.
