A critical step to restoring self-governance is for citizens to become engaged and involved in their government. Part of this engagement should include getting to know and communicating with your state legislators. Unfortunately for many of us, this can be an intimidating process. It should not be. There are a couple things to keep in mind when talking to legislators:\\ \\ - They are no different than YOU! They put have passions and concerns - just like you. - They work for YOU! You are their constituent and they are supposed to represent you. They can only do that if you engage and talk with them. - Regardless of whether you agree on a specific topic or are even ideologically opposed, you should always communicate with them respectfully.  - If a legislator asks you a question that you don't know, just state that you don't know but you will get them the answer. It is always better to say you don't know than to make up answers that could be wrong. If this happens, please communicate the question to the Kentucky leadership and we will get you the answer. - We will pair you with an experienced KY Convention of States Team member to make the experience easier. A common comment that we get is, "why do you have these during a working day?" We understand that many people have jobs and can not take off work; however, this is when the legislators are at the Capitol. That does not mean that you can not help though. Call or write your legislators prior to the rally. Tell them that you support the Convention of States Resolution. Tell them that you would attend the rally; however, your schedule won't allow it. Ask them to meet with the KY Team leadership on the 9th and ask if you can meet with them some other time. Additionally, you can send them a hand-written letter. In today's era of email, text, etc. hand-written letters have a tremendous impact.  The fact that a constituent takes the time to actually write a letter and mail it shows a strong commitment. If you need sample letters to spark some thoughts click here If you need to look up your legislators click here Use our Free look up tool to call or send an email to your legislators As always, please reach out to us if you have any questions or need help. For additional questions please contact the Kentucky State Director Jim Ball at james.ball@cosaction.com or Legislative Liaison Mary Jo Wedding at mary_jo.wedding@cosaction.com.
