Why I Voted for the Convention of States Project Resolution
• I am concerned about the potential mischief our current President may cause
through the use of executive orders. COS would allow the states to consider
proposing a constitutional amendment to restrain the President’s power to make
law through executive order.
• Many South Carolinians today are living in fear of their federal government. They
are eager to see the states use their constitutional power under Article V to limit
the reach of the federal government.
• The concentration of power at the federal level has had the effect of making
federal officials less responsive to the will of the people and more readily
influenced by lobbyists, wealthy corporations, and special interests in Washington
who donate obscene amounts of money to their election campaigns. COS would
allow the states to impose fiscal restraints on Washington that would curtail the
ability of federal officials to dole out favors to those special interest groups, thus
drastically reducing their power over our elected representatives.
• I am concerned about the degree of power that is now concentrated in the hands of
federal bureaucrats who were never chosen by the people and have no
accountability to the people whatsoever. COS would allow the states to discuss
ways of limiting the power of federal agencies and/or making them more
accountable to our elected officials.
• COS is a grassroots-driven effort to bring about reforms desired by the American
people but resisted by Washington, DC. I believe that government at every level
should be more responsive to the people.
